One of the axioms of physics comes down to physics working the same no matter where you are in the universe. Faster than light travel isn't happening. Not for us, not for aliens. So alien races that are making the effort to send their members out into space aren't doing so on multiple century or millennium exploratory missions. They have destinations in mind.

So suppose you are a race that has evolved on a planet somewhere. How did your race evolve? By the laws of biology it was through competition and evolutionary forces. Being an intelligent race means you have a dark past because you didn't get to the top by giving up your place in line.

But, you say, any race capable of achieving the advances needed to travel successfully between stars likely became a more culturally evolved race that values cooperation over competition. But they are also needing to take their show on the road. Why? Resources are scarce in our universe and if you are a race that is trying to get off planet it isn't due to benevolent intent to spread the Gospel of good tech to other competition-evolved races who could easily decide to turn it back against you. So if you can stay home, you will. If you don't stay home, there are reasons for it that likely spell bad news for whomever is on the planet you are heading toward. You also know that any race you meet that begins to develop tech based on what you have developed is going to seek their own survival over yours. So the human race is a threat to any alien race that is made aware of our existance.

If an alien race shows up in our solar system, we are toast.

We can and likely will become competition. The options are avoid contact completely or eliminate, not coexist with. By choosing to come here anyway, they made it clear they are taking us out before we can realize that threat.

They just travelled centuries or even a millennium to get here because of that whole lack of faster than light travel. This isn't a race looking at humans as insignificant because we are working on interplanetary travel today. The calculus of our becoming advanced enough to turn their own tech back against them in a relatively short time frame compared to their trip guarantees they remove us immediately so they can enjoy the reward of risking the interstellar trip in the first place.
