I’d also see a Newsom candidacy as problematic. California’s scale (with a GDP at almost the equal of all of South America and nearly twice that of the next two states, coupled with more than a tenth of the US population) means that it deals with plenty of liabilities. Those liabilities seem easy for Republican strategists to target, especially given their penchant for pushing exaggeration and repeated falsehoods. That’s how it goes these days; America doesn’t ‘do’ rational analysis of candidates, it favors memes and bullshyte, right? We like our bread and circuses. Trump’s Twitter and Truth Social posts are the perfect example.

Interestingly, Newsom has now taken to co-opting the obvious Trumpian BS strategy with his own twist (and a wink). Regardless if Newsom tosses his hat in the ring for 2028, his X antics are raising some eyebrows and getting some laughs.

Several months ago, I proposed that if the Democrats aim to effectively challenge Trump in the future, they should adopt a strategy similar to his. I believed this approach would undermine Trump's capacity to portray the Democrats as weak and childish to the American public.

However, many progressives on the board, including the three stooges, particularly Moe, also known as Canpakes, dismissed my suggestion and labeled me an idiot for advocating this as a viable game plan to counter Trump's strategy.

Now, about six months later, Moe, the primary stooge, also referred to as Canpakes the moderator, finds it "interesting" that Newsom is beginning to reflect Trump's behavior. It demonstrates that even someone considered a stooge can experience a moment of insight; it appears that the groupthink Moe falls victim to permits a bit of common sense to shine through.

Mimicking Trump to mock Trump is not the same as acting like Trump. I would have figured that you’d be able to understand the difference, but apparently you cannot.

I'm more of a conservative/libertarian mix these days, so I really have nothing in common with the left/progressives/democrats. But from my perspective, going forward the left needs to be as close to the center as possible (where most reasonable people are) and stop with all the crazy fringe, ridiculous issues. The problem is that the small minority of the fringe left is the loudest and gets all the media attention, which makes them seem mainstream (but they aren't and will never be regardless of how hard the media tries to ram it down peoples throats). This alienates the remaining center left reasonable common sense folks. I mean look at the way some on the left went all in on the El Salvadorean non citizen criminal MS13 gang banger? And one congressman actually flew there to try and get him back!? Come on man. All those main stream center left voters are cringing at those kinds of theatrics.

Anyway, step one is to actually have a primary next time around!

Put another way, 'look at the way some on the left went all in on calling out an administration that denied a person their constitutional rights, defied court orders, and then lied about it in their court filings'?

By the way: he wasn't a criminal. He had no criminal record. Being in the US 'illegally' is a civil infraction, not a criminal offence. Even if there is good reason to believe he was an MS13 gang banger (and, frankly, there isn't) he still has the right to due process. If he doesn't have that right, neither do you or I.
