And they all know enough to realise that a violent attack on the physical integrity and normal functioning of any legally functioning organisation, let alone Congress, is against the law. The same would apply if they burst into the kitchen of a McDonalds and stopped the cooks doing their job. And this was the beating heart of US democracy that they managed to stop for quite a while.

While some of these people are, admittedly, ill-educated and ill-informed, there is no way that they did not know that what they were doing was against the law. If they are not prosecuted on the grounds of their wilfully ignorant and deluded state, that will open a lot of doors through which some really horrible, evil and malevolent people will march in, grinning all over their faces. This is not a time to deal softly with people who boasted of their use of violence and the threat of violence, and now want to whimper about 'Poor little me - I just didn't know any better'.

Oh, I agree that they knew they were breaking the law. Revolution always involves breaking the law. And if your revolution fails, you have to deal with the consequences. That part doesn’t trouble me at all.

The part that troubles me is the part of the American ethos that encourages violent revolution as a response to tyranny. I don’t know obvious that notion is to other countries.

It’s easy to imagine myself in the young lady’s place in a slightly different parallel universe. The only difference is that wouldn’t be naïve about the risks revolution entails. It looks like she truly expected law enforcement to join the glorious revolution. Maybe the shocked look on her face and the tremble in her voice echoes something in my past: I was going to the Celestial Kingdom. I was going to be a God.

I suspect this is part of question the degree to which we actually make conscious decisions.

After close review of recent Tweets from the @realDonaldTrump account and the context around them — specifically how they are being received and interpreted on and off Twitter — we have permanently suspended the account due to the risk of further incitement of violence.

In the context of horrific events this week, we made it clear on Wednesday that additional violations of the Twitter Rules would potentially result in this very course of action. Our public interest framework exists to enable the public to hear from elected officials and world leaders directly. It is built on a principle that the people have a right to hold power to account in the open.

However, we made it clear going back years that these accounts are not above our rules entirely and cannot use Twitter to incite violence, among other things. We will continue to be transparent around our policies and their enforcement.

The below is a comprehensive analysis of our policy enforcement approach in this case.

Overview

On January 8, 2021, President Donald J. Trump tweeted:

“The 75,000,000 great American Patriots who voted for me, AMERICA FIRST, and MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN, will have a GIANT VOICE long into the future. They will not be disrespected or treated unfairly in any way, shape or form!!!”

Shortly thereafter, the President tweeted:

“To all of those who have asked, I will not be going to the Inauguration on January 20th.”

Due to the ongoing tensions in the United States, and an uptick in the global conversation in regards to the people who violently stormed the Capitol on January 6, 2021, these two Tweets must be read in the context of broader events in the country and the ways in which the President’s statements can be mobilized by different audiences, including to incite violence, as well as in the context of the pattern of behavior from this account in recent weeks. After assessing the language in these Tweets against our Glorification of Violence policy, we have determined that these Tweets are in violation of the Glorification of Violence Policy and the user @realDonaldTrump should be immediately permanently suspended from the service.

Assessment

We assessed the two Tweets referenced above under our Glorification of Violence policy, which aims to prevent the glorification of violence that could inspire others to replicate violent acts and determined that they were highly likely to encourage and inspire people to replicate the criminal acts that took place at the U.S. Capitol on January 6, 2021.

This determination is based on a number of factors, including:
•President Trump’s statement that he will not be attending the Inauguration is being received by a number of his supporters as further confirmation that the election was not legitimate and is seen as him disavowing his previous claim made via two Tweets (1, 2) by his Deputy Chief of Staff, Dan Scavino, that there would be an “orderly transition” on January 20th.
•The second Tweet may also serve as encouragement to those potentially considering violent acts that the Inauguration would be a “safe” target, as he will not be attending.
•The use of the words “American Patriots” to describe some of his supporters is also being interpreted as support for those committing violent acts at the US Capitol.
•The mention of his supporters having a “GIANT VOICE long into the future” and that “They will not be disrespected or treated unfairly in any way, shape or form!!!” is being interpreted as further indication that President Trump does not plan to facilitate an “orderly transition” and instead that he plans to continue to support, empower, and shield those who believe he won the election.
•Plans for future armed protests have already begun proliferating on and off-Twitter, including a proposed secondary attack on the US Capitol and state capitol buildings on January 17, 2021.

As such, our determination is that the two Tweets above are likely to inspire others to replicate the violent acts that took place on January 6, 2021, and that there are multiple indicators that they are being received and understood as encouragement to do so.

With regard to the Twitter account being shut down. I've been watching his account since he came back on. That account is going to be come part of the evidence including that one tweet that caused the account to be closed. You can see that he's not even capable of seeing the ramifications of that one tweet with the CAPS.

I want to say something here and I'm dead dog serious. From all I have seen and read with regard to overt and in this case, malignant, narcissists, he is as his MOST dangerous RIGHT NOW. I say that not only on account of the fact that he's a trapped rat whose former supporters are now renouncing him but more to the point, he's a narc with NO WAY to get his SUPPLY. (Sorry for the caps, I'm being lazy.) A narc of his caliber with no source of supply is deadly.

There is NO question in my mind but that he needs to be put into a 5150 psych hold for 72 hours and then have it extended. If no one is willing to do that, then he needs to be taken into a protective custody situation.

Here is why. When a narc like him is backed into a corner they will either try to destroy anyone they can or themselves. He has NO way to hurt anyone else and no way to get his supply. The most likely scenario, as I see it, is that he'll hurt himself and while that might sound like a positive outcome to many or most, he needs to be protected in order to face charges and stand trial if trial is appropriate.

In other words, I predict this guy is going to come down like a ton of bricks and someone needs to look out for his welfare and hand over power to Pence.

I’m not saying she shouldn’t be prosecuted. Part of the risk of violent revolution is losing, resulting in punishment that can be pretty severe. I think that helps us decide when a revolution is worthwhile. If there were no consequences, we’d have a different revolution every day.

But, she’s got the same basic equipment that I do — the same wiring and the same cognitive biases. So, as much as I reject what she’s done, there’s a bit of “there but for the Grace of God go I” lurking in my brain.

I've been considering this and the thrust of your post a lot the last couple days, RI. These people believed the Trump BS so deeply and are so pissed off at America, they were willing to publicly, brazenly, and feeling righteously storm the Capitol Building. They really believe that BS. Or they are really pissed off at American government. Or both.
