Or perhaps we'll get an antivax thread?

How much of the icecap needs to melt, how high does sea level need to rise, before off-their-tits-lunatics like ldsfaqs start to consider that perhaps the climate might be changing, and that humans might be the cause?

If there's one thing I've learned over the years from shitposting on the Internet it's this:

90%-95% of people who hold a strong opinion about something will double down to their dying breath.

I forgot who said this, but you can't reason someone out of an opinion they didn't reason themselves into. Whether it's football, race, budgets, government, science, religion, or how to bake a pie, if that person's identity is tied to their opinion good damned luck.

It's bizarre.

I think Cam has it right. The opposition to the facts of climate change has nothing to do with the actual facts — it is strongly tied to identity. It requires an admission that the free market can lead to the destruction of civilization, that government intervention can not only be good, but also be necessary, and that the US must cooperate with other nations to avoid disaster. It Also requires an admission that the labs can be right.

For those who still deny that the surface atmosphere is warming and that humans are the major cause of the warming since the late 1800s, that’s a heavy blow to their political identity. No amount of evidence will lead them to admit that human activity is the primary cause.

I'm sorry, RI, but clearly your thinking has been affected by your vaccinations.

I believe I heard this from Sam Harris (and someone might have said it before him). You can take a sample of unrelated issues such as global warming, gun control, abortion, gay rights, Trump's border wall, capital punishment, etc. and if you ask someone their position on just one of those issues, you can predict their position on all of the other issues to a very high degree of certainty. Political identity is very important to a lot of Americans for some reason. I'm not sure if it's that way in other countries as well. I learned about the greenhouse effect in elementary science class way back in the day. I don't remember anyone calling it liberal propaganda back then. It was simply one of many natural processes that as explained in the science book. I'm all for challenging our assumptions, but the skeptical arguments against global warming are far less convincing than the simple fact that increasing greenhouse gases in the atmosphere warms the planet. I don't see how anyone can believe the skeptics unless their political identity depends on it.

... greenhouse effect. Hmph. How can something ‘green’ not be part of a librul commie socialist raghead lover conspiracy to enslave Americans?

And to think if they had just called it the reflected ‘merican energy freedom effect back then, we wouldn’t be having this perception problem today.
