You take candy from a stranger
Without a second thought of danger?
Would you consult with a cow
If you didn't know a how?
Would you let a rabid dog
Lead you straight into the fog?
Do you get all your advice
From a roll of random dice?
Do you wish upon a star
That it cares who you are?
You chuck a penny in a well
To make your life turn out swell?
That might be fine and dandy
Enjoy your stranger poisoned candy
But I think I'll stick to facts
To keep away from run down shacks.

I do think that Kamala and her campaign organizers and consultants are not entirely blameless for the disastrous results of the election. She made a serious mistake by backing off from advocating for universal healthcare, for example, for which polls have shown that up to 80% of Americans have expressed approval and has proven to be successful in nearly every (if not every) other advanced country that has it, and at up to less than half the cost per person than America's health system. She also backed off from advocating that the price of all drugs purchased or approved by the government be negotiated, not just some of them.
She foolishly, I think, backed off somewhat from endorsing others of her more progressive ideas, which polls have shown are popular with a majority of Americans, on the advice of some of the corporate think tanks she relied upon as campaign consultants and who also advised corporate billionaire contributors to her campaign, such as Big Pharma and insurance companies who wanted to preserve and further enhance their huge profits and power.
Some have blamed her loss on being too progressive. Nonsense! I think it more likely that many Democrat and independent voters felt betrayed by her backing away from some of her more popular progressive policies for which they had previously admired her. I think there was a feeling by many that she had moved too far to the right or the middle and was no longer sufficiently different, policy wise, from the opposition.

I think Trump's mutant power to sway the weak-minded was the deciding factor in the election.

I have no doubt that that was an important factor, but I still think that Kamala Harris and her campaign workers and consultants are not entirely blameless. That RFK Jr. went over to Trump's side, taking his supporters with him was also a significant factor. Had he not done that and supported Kamala instead, I think that would also have changed the outcome. Apparently, he did this out of pique because Kamala knew better than to endorse his dangerous anti-vax nonsense or seriously consider him a viable candidate for HHS Secretary.

The biggest mistake Democrats made was Kamala refusing to talk/compromise with RFK and seeing many of his voters go to Trump. Democrsts couldn't compromise and extreme MAGA Republicans could. But I'm happy if Gunnar wants to continue to think Kamala lost for backing off of her previous out of touch hard left stances. Now the morning Schmo is kissing the ring in Mar a Lago of the man he called Hitler for the last 9 years. It is good to see Democrats have not resorted to violence. But it exposes their lies that Trump will become a dictator and never leave office. Biden just sat down with Trump in the White house for a cordial interview and peaceful transfer of power to the man he called the greatest threat to democracy. Now Biden loves Trump for taking down the Democrats who denied him a chance to run again. They never believed their own lies.
And when the Confederates saw Jackson standing fearless like a stonewall, the army of Northern Virginia took courage and drove the federal army off their land.

You are hilarious, Ajax. I agree with you on the RFK thing. But, Trump is not a conservative, dude. People are voting for Trump for the populist stuff. I mean, he is totally fake as a populist, but people believe he is. He definitely has the populist style and appeal. So, promise real populism, real benefits from the people, and then you will probably get more votes from them. Democrats aren't committed to the big things people want because their rich donors don't want to pay the taxes to provide them. They were probably unhappy with Biden for being too generous. What the elite of the party want is basically identity politics with Reaganomics.ajax18 wrote: ↑Wed Nov 20, 2024 2:44 amThe biggest mistake Democrats made was Kamala refusing to talk/compromise with RFK and seeing many of his voters go to Trump. "I have learned with what evils tyranny infects a state. For it frustrates all the virtues, robs freedom of its lofty mood, and opens a school of fawning and terror, inasmuch as it leaves matters not to the wisdom of the laws, but to the angry whim of those who are in authority.”

That's actually kind of enlightening. Thanks for responding. You taught me something there. That would explain why wealth inequality continues to increase under Democrats and why the elites overrode the democracy in the Democratic primary in choosing Hillary Clinton as the 2016 nominee instead of Bernie Sanders.Democrats aren't committed to the big things people want because their rich donors don't want to pay the taxes to provide them. They were probably unhappy with Biden for being too generous. What the elite of the party want is basically identity politics with Reaganomics.

So often, when I see Trump talking or espousing his elementary-level "I forgot to read the book the report is on" policy proposals, I can't help but see an uneducated New York liberal doing a caricature of what they think a conservative is.Kishkumen wrote: ↑Wed Nov 20, 2024 12:31 pmYou are hilarious, Ajax. It's like some elitist liberal just took all of the worst stereotypes that circulate amongst east coast liberal circles of what a conservative is/believes/thinks, and then pulling off a grift by projecting all of those stereotypes because projecting a thoughtful nuanced conservative is beyond them. What's wild, is that one-dimensional, shallow, and horrendous stereotype actually endeared him to the majority of Republicans.
