Re: Removing the Veil
Could some nice person smarter than me, Cam, put up the expected GDP numbers for 2025 of some of the countries being tariff'd and compare those to that of the US because I just read that Argentina is in better economic shape than the US. Because as I was poking around it seemed to me that other countries we're tariff-ing are expecting better economic growth while ours is going straight in the dumper.Doctor CamNC4Me wrote: ↑Sat Aug 09, 2025 11:40 amWell, thanks to Trump voters, we’re now getting Trumpflation:
He’s weaponized white racism, see Ajax18 for example, to tax the crap out of us with his tariffs. This is causing suppliers to increase their prices across the board. I’m sorry, but if you’re getting mad at a guy on the Internet because he’s cussing about Trump and his voters, your priorities and theirs are all sorts of self-defeating. Are ya winning yet, son?Im sure everyone in general is experiencing more and more expensive groceries. BUT TODAY :0! Had me looking around like I was dreaming. I spend about a 100$ -150$ in groceries for the month just for myself and that's covering the whole month including cleaners and toiletries. I think its always worked for me and its a fair budget. I go to Winco I think they have some good prices usually TODAY! Mouth wash -9$ FOR THE SMALL BOTTLE Tide powder detergent i buy maybe once every three months - 23$!! FOR THE SMALL BOX

Thanks, Cam.

I, mean, you could put up hard numbers, but doesn’t prove any faster-growing country vs. the US is “in better shape” overall*; you have to look at inflation, unemployment, per-capita income, debt, and overall stability. The World Bank does in fact caution that tariff-driven uncertainty is a major drag on global growth.
* For example, I think Argentina’s projected GDP growth is ~5% while US projected growth is ~1.5%. BUT, our economy is ~$30T and theirs is $.7T. Our GDP is much higher, too.

Trump is selling hats with the slogan Trump in 2028 in the White House gift shop. The Quorum of the Twelve will declare that there is nothing in LDS doctrine to prohibit this and that they will take no position against this move. They will point out that the Constitution is purely a secular matter.

Re: Removing the Veil
One thing to bear in mind as tariffs grind down the economy, authoritarianism will destroy life as we know it including a good economy for most people; certainly everyone on this forum will eventually take the hit. One of the later Money and Macro episodes had some good insights into the contradictions of China. China essentially has two economies, the economy of the state and the economy for everyone else. That's exactly where we're headed under the present regime. Authoritarian leaders will always make sure their economy is a good one. Putin has a great economy for Vladimir Putin.
Authoritarian leaders don't need to follow the logic of people are unhappy and therefore they get voted out. The challenge of a good authoritarian is to keep people in line even when times are bad, because times are mostly going to be bad. Trump needs a recession or even a depression, that's ultimately in his interest, because it's easy to stay in power if the base is doing okay. Even for the stupid people who are direct targets and voted red, it's still a numbers game, and we've got a ways to go before the personal risk is steep enough that a stupid person will feel it. The downturn is needed in order to test keeping power through it. once that test is passed, the coast is clear, and goodbye to the lives we once knew.

Your silence on this speaks volumes. I think I've learned something about you here. Yeah, manipulation has taken place, and you're the one not aware (or don't want to be) that's what happened. Some Schmo wrote: ↑Sat Aug 09, 2025 4:23 amIt occurred to me that what you're really saying here is that you think Democrats have made Trump look worse than he actually is. Is that what you're actually claiming? I just want to make sure before I react to that insane idea.
Just a preview: Democrats don't have to spin anything to make Trump look bad. He does that perfectly well on all his own. Have you actually listened to him speak? If so, were you half asleep?
It's kind of amusing, actually.
You remind me of Aaron Rogers. Daft guy who thinks he's smart.

Re: Removing the Veil
It wasn't meant to be funny. Trump announcing he will run for a third term is more of a tragedy. The other stuff is my guess as to how the LDS Church will react to this announcement. In the past, they have insinuated that the Constitution was a divine document. My guess is they only care about the right to bear arms and to practice religion as they see fit. Trump can become King, and the Church will be fine with it.Dr. Shades wrote: ↑Mon Aug 18, 2025 9:05 amWas that funny?Moksha wrote: ↑Sun Aug 10, 2025 1:35 pmTrump is selling hats with the slogan Trump in 2028 in the White House gift shop.
