I’m with you, Jersey Girl. Lockdowns didn’t enter my mind when it came to vote.

In my mind, science dictates the lockdowns. They were going to return regardless of who is in the White House and the person who inhabits the Oval Office has nothing to do with them to start with except for the possible fact that they could support and encourage them.Doctor CamNC4Me wrote: ↑Sat Nov 28, 2020 11:28 pmI’m with you, Jersey Girl. Do yout think it will matter how people vote in the governor's races Doc? I think it is a rather small portion of people whose income is effected by the lockdowns, at least in a drastic and immediately recognizable manner. Just look at this board.Doctor CamNC4Me wrote: ↑Sat Nov 28, 2020 11:28 pmI’m with you, Jersey Girl. Lockdowns didn’t enter my mind when it came to vote.

The Optometrists I see who favor lockdowns work in Academia or the VA. Both continue to get paid to not go to work. I imagine the private guys in some of these blue states will be seeing quite a few veterans given that many of the VA health centers have closed until Jan 4. I guess if they're getting paid anyway, well why the rush to get back to work?

Well I guess the governor dictates the lockdowns and in theory the voters choose a governor. In my mind, science dictates the lockdowns.
In hindsight do you think the science was right when it said 2 million more mortalities along with 20% of those infected left permanently disabled if we hadn't went ahead with the lockdown that we had from March till I guess now if you live in a blue state?

When people vote for their governor, will it matter to them whether he locked it down like Gavin Newsome or reopened quickly like Ron DeSantis?Which Governor’s race? What?
I guess some businesses have done very well under the restrictions but in general that's been big business while small business has been pruned back. But I guess if you already have an under the table hustle to avoid paying for Obamacare, child support, taxes, etc, such a business would be remarkably Covid resistant as well.

The hilarity of this "lockdown" fear mongering by Ajax and like-minded sheeple, is that it was their dear leader Donald Trump who started this. He initially said he was going to quarantine the entire state of New York. Of course, none of his followers objected to that then, but it became quickly obvious that he had no authority to do it anway. Once he realized this, he and Kushner decided that instead of fighting for that authority, they'd use this as an easy out. So whatever happens they'll just blame the individual states, particularly those with Democrat governors.
Ajax's whining about the horrible prospect of a lockdown ignores the fact that the President isn't the one who makes that decision.

This false dichotomy between the economy and public health is nonsense. Consumer spending drives our economy. Consumers aren't going to out and spend money when they know the disease is freely circulating and the hospitals have no room to admit anyone who needs hospital care. And if you're a governor who let the virus rampage through the state, how are you going to trust that governor when he says "it's safe to come out now?"
We had one of the earliest stay at home orders. Our Democratic governor was easily re-elected in November.

Exactly. I see these restaurant owners showing up on FOX news just to wail and moan about how the government restrictions are destroying their business. No, the pandemic is. The best chance of salvaging a business during a pandemic is to follow the recommended guidelines. Customers aren't going to go buy food at your restaurant anyway even if you were allowed to open. Trump's own Surgeon General said we could have had the pandemic mostly behind us if the country would just stick to a national standard of mitigation measures. But that won't happen because, idiots on the Right don't believe in science.Res Ipsa wrote: ↑Sun Nov 29, 2020 12:28 amThis false dichotomy between the economy and public health is nonsense. Yes and they do so based on science.
Yes.In hindsight do you think the science was right when it said 2 million more mortalities along with 20% of those infected left permanently disabled if we hadn't went ahead with the lockdown that we had from March till I guess now if you live in a blue state?
Our lock down lasted I dunno, approx, 6 weeks. I'd have to check my notes on that. And they aren't authentic lockdowns. I've been in real lockdowns and this ain't it.
