The National debt is now at about $27.8 trillion. Tomorrow, Biden will become President. And we will likely soon see Hannity and other Republicans start screaming about the debt again.

If Donald Trump were the man from Samaria who saw the stranger beaten by the side of the road, he would have walked right by.
No I think he would have stopped and checked him for loose change.

I noticed you were kind of quiet during COVID Brackite. Do you think the shutdowns have been worth the price we paid for them? Do you think California and New York deserve federal money for policies that you have no vote in?
And when the Confederates saw Jackson standing fearless like a stonewall, the army of Northern Virginia took courage and drove the federal army off their land.

PARLER - Did you know it was confirmed that Rebekah Mercer was a primary funder of Parler:

https://www.cnn.com/2020/11/15/media/re ... index.html

"John and I started Parler to provide a neutral platform for free speech, as our founders intended, and also to create a social media environment that would protect data privacy," Mercer said in a statement on the platform. "The ever increasing tyranny and hubris of our tech overlords demands that someone lead the fight against data mining, and for the protection of free speech online. That someone is Parler, a beacon to all who value their liberty, free speech, and personal privacy."

Uh huh. Cool.

Did you know the Mercers funded Cambridge Analytica, now known as Emerdata? They don't give a crap about privacy. They know that nowadays data is power and want it for themselves. Also, esmerdalhada is Portuguese for crap show. Seems appropriate.

With unemployment supplimenting Social Security, right now I have no additional need for a job.
Well honestly good for you. And thank you for answering my question. This does explain quite a bit.

I notice you have this delusion that no restrictions would have keep the economy humming along.

Of course most voters aren't informed enough to understand that these increased tax costs levied against the rich are passed on to consumers. And yet the 1% seems to get richer and richer in spite of this line that voters continue to buy over and over again.
Ajax - this does not make sense. The effective tax rate on the wealthiest Americans has been steadily dropping for decades as the relative wealth of middle and lower income Americans has stagnated.

Effective tax rate:

Percent of income held by Income Level

The burden of this IS being passed on to lower income people but that doesn't take the form you described.

Where did you get that information?

An interesting though experiment for our board fascists:
This is basic principle behind John Rawls' Original Position thought experiment, which is probably one of the more influential philosophical thought experiments in the last 100 years.

Basically asking the question 'if you could roll the dice again and be born into your country/world etc... but the circumstances of your birth would be completely random, would you?'

Then if you had the ability to choose the principles of justice of the society you were born into, without knowing where in society you would be born, what would you choose?

So know that you could be born rich or poor, healthy and able bodied or affected by some ailment, you don't know your race, sex, gender, eye color, etc... what do you want your society to look like?

The idea is that whatever people tend to agree with should be the direction we should push society towards.

Would you want access to a good education, food and shelter if you were unable to get it, healthcare available if you're sick?

Do you want to maximize potential freedoms and not be constrained by laws, or do you want your society to rigorously enforce and guarantee some guidelines for businesses and people?

I think considering this question is really important for people developing their own political and social views, or at least it was for me.

Well, yes. But more importantly, I like the idea of being in a place where I know that everybody I meet is secure in their basic needs, and enabled to develop as far as they are capable of.

Because it's nicer to meet people like that in daily life than those who are living with concealed desperation and fear - including the fear by those who have that those who have not will turn on them in rage and hate and take what they need. That's no way for a human being to live.

At least that's how I feel about it. And you?

If you believe this, and if this is the case, then why are you always complaining about ‘taxing the rich’, as if you expect to join that club someday and subsequently be taxed into poverty?
