In my mind, the primary reason humanity is doomed is that most people value comfort over truth. Cults and tribalism are what will inevitably kill us. You can't solve problems when large numbers of people deny they exist.

The idiots making idiotic arguments make those arguments because they are terrified of the truth. They'd rather stroke themselves and repeat that everything will be all right. Jesus/Trump/Putin will save them. They're irresponsible children.
Religion is for people whose existential fear is greater than their common sense.

The god idea is popular with desperate people.

I bet you’ll use carbon energy most of the day. Try not to, come back and tell us how successful you were!!
In the midst of all his brainless clowning, Mike stumbled on the truth. Because we've built our civilization around burning fossil fuels for energy, it is virtually impossible for ordinary people to go about their lives without burning carbon. To any rational non-clown, the conclusion one necessarily reaches is obvious: individual attempts to reduce carbon emissions cannot create the reduction in carbon emissions needed to avoid a catastrophe that will last longer than our recorded history to date. The only way to get where we need to be is to change how we produce and use energy. That's perfectly obvious to anyone who has two brain cells to rub together, but what we get is clowning.
😂🤣😂🤣🤣😂😂 !! Oh look!! The lawyer has started insulting me in hopes I’ll lose my cool so he can ban me😂😂😂! Good try lawyer boy but try not to make it so obvious, that way you’ll have a better chance of me actually biting the hook😂!

I love how you try to wiggle out of your individual responsibility for cleaning up Mother Earth!! And you call me a clown! I see why you’re a lawyer, because you definitely aren’t dealing in reality just like the majority of lawyers in know. Take a minute and read what you wrote! You said, you, mr lawyer boy, You’re going to keep doing what You’re doing because there’s no way to make a change on an individual basis. That’s total fxxxin bullsxxt and deep down in your black lawyer heart I’m sure you realize it’s bullxxxt!! But please keep complaining about what’s happening to Mother Earth at the same time you’re making excuses for not changing your lifestyle to help the situation. And I’m serious, absolutely serious!! Because that’s why no one cares about the bullxxit that’s coming out of your mouth, because progressives are hypocrites!! Total hypocrites!! Your prophets will fly to a climate change function in over 100 private jets, take limousines to the to the event, sit under lights powered by coal, in a room Air conditioned by electricity that came from coal power and act like they’re the saviors of mankind!! Yeah! Anyone who’s willing to use common fuxxin sense can see through that bullxxit! It’s a cult!! Simple as that!

No. What triggers you is realizing you’ve spent hundreds and hundreds of hours researching climate change and you still haven’t realized you’re being hoodwinked by a bunch of retards who can’t tell me it’s going to rain tomorrow! Again, you’re going to be laying on your death bed 🛌 and you’re going to realize that 99% of the climate change bullxxit you were sold was done to scare the livin crap out of you! That’s a promise because it’s the truth!

Mike, you look a bit out of control. You’re not making an argument about anything; you’re only ranting like a corner drunk.

Your rants suck because no-one has suggested what you’re saying they are.

Case in point: asbestos used to be used as a primary material in roofing shingles about a century ago. Folks stopped using it for a good reason, one that you wouldn’t disagree with. Yet, the roofing industry survived the change, and everyone benefited. No one was a hypocrite for advocating for the change while still using a roof.

The same approach exists for addressing climate change issues. Only fools believe that they’re being told to give up their ‘lifestyle’ in order to move towards smarter solutions to our needs.

Clowning is 100% a reaction to being trigged. It's what insecure, fearful people do when they can't present either facts or a coherent argument. You are so triggered that you can't stop yourself from clowning whenever somebody posts anything about climate.

And it's easy to see why you are compelled to clown: all you have are silly claims. For example, you are treating weather like climate. That's kindergarten level clowning. The shorter the time frame and the more specific the geographic area, the more difficult it is to predict. That's chaos theory. Variability in conditions that affect weather can and do overwhelm any prediction that can be made based on historical trends.

But, widen the time frame and the geographic area and it becomes much, much easier to make valid predictions. Clowns have been declaring for decades that "global cooling" was right around the corner. And every single clown was wrong. Meanwhile, climate scientists have predicted increasing global temperatures for decades. And they were not wrong.

A good example of the difference between a weather prediction and a climate prediction is what's called a Galton Board. https://zerodha.com/varsity/chapter/vol ... tribution/

Image

It is impossible to predict the path of each ball as it bounces off the pins because the path is so sensitive to the initial conditions. But we can much more easily predict the result of dropping many balls onto the Galton board -- the so-called "normal distribution" or something close to it.

Or, we can't predict the behavior of individual tourists who come to Seattle with any accuracy at all. But we can make reasonable predictions about how many tourists will go to the top of the Space Needle in a given year.

Climate is measured over a period of 30 years. All of those initial conditions that can affect day to day weather tend to cancel each other out when we use a 30-year period and the entire surface of the earth. It's just math. And actually understand the math is what makes your comparison of weather forecasting to climate forecasting 100% clowning.

The Working Group II report focuses on risks and adaptation. In other words, it leaves out taking measures to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Those are mitigation measures, and will appear in the Working Group III report.

Areas of the United States are already spending millions of dollars in climate adaptation. Here's a good example from Florida. https://nordot.app/871067887807561728?c ... 7532812385 Millions of dollars spent already. Millions of dollars lost in real estate value. And there are technical and practical limits to adaptation, which means relocation of hundreds of thousands of people, with construction of new supporting infrastructure. And that will be paid for with increased taxes.

For example, it's going on four years since Hurricane Michael devastated the Florida Handle. (I have a friend from Bay County and have heard about how slow the recovery has gone.) Back to normal? Nope. DeSantis just approved 91 million in new state funds to repair/replace infrastructure in the stricken areas. https://www.wctv.tv/2022/02/12/governor ... y-efforts/

If you're a hurricane watcher, you've noticed something over the past years. The models that had been pretty good at predicting tracks and intensity have started missing something: rapid intensification. Time after time, the models underpredict the strength of hurricanes as they develop. It's like there's been some kind of fundamental change in how hurricanes are developing. And there has been a pretty significant change in recent years -- the surface temperature in the Gulf of Mexico. That's where hurricanes get their energy some. The future cost of adaptation will require adding infrastructure in the form of sea walls, etc. and/or relocating coastal populations in Florida. And all that costs tax money, that we'll all be paying.

Here's what the Working Group I report predicts about hurricanes:
Tropical cyclone rainfall rates are projected to increase in the future (medium to high confidence) due to anthropogenic warming and accompanying increase in atmospheric moisture content. Modeling studies on average project an increase on the order of 10-15% for rainfall rates averaged within about 100 km of the storm for a 2 degree Celsius global warming scenario.

Tropical cyclone intensities globally are projected to increase (medium to high confidence) on average (by 1 to 10% according to model projections for a 2 degree Celsius global warming). This change would imply an even larger percentage increase in the destructive potential per storm, assuming no reduction in storm size. Storm size responses to anthropogenic warming are uncertain.

The global proportion of tropical cyclones that reach very intense (Category 4 and 5) levels is projected to increase (medium to high confidence) due to anthropogenic warming over the 21st century. There is less confidence in future projections of the global number of Category 4 and 5 storms, since most modeling studies project a decrease (or little change) in the global frequency of all tropical cyclones combined.

These predictions result from what climate scientists have predicted for decades: as the atmosphere warms, it contains more total energy. That increased energy will result in greater extremes in weather events.

That is the TL;DR of the report: hotter air, more energy, so worse storms.

Oh, and don't forget: hotter air can carry more moisture. So the worse storms will also bring more intense rain, hence worse floods.

Oh, and don't forget: the arctic is heating up faster than equatorial regions which weakens the jet stream. This in turn causes it to be less stable and allows very cold arctic air to be moved further south than we are used to, as Texas experienced last winter.

From the scientific point of view, it is really fascinating to watch these new processes at work.

But frankly, the pleasure to be derived from scientific investigation of what is happening is a bit like the pleasure of warming your hands at the flames as your only home burns down, and everything you value goes up in smoke.
