There are so many reasons why it's an absurd idea that nobody takes seriously, including those proposing it.
Here's one more. While it may be the case that some teachers have an interest in guns or perhaps a military background, teachers in general shouldn't be pressured into becoming tactical experts. There's some irony here that gun enthusiasts -- most of them who aren't trained for combat themselves -- to protect their hobby are "forcing" others to take up their hobby and get better at it than they are. Talk about socialism encroaching on society: government pressuring teachers to arm themselves and train to confront active shooters.
Both so true.
Just like everyone should be an entrepreneur. Or a Christian.

I do think there is a decent chance the PR strategy here is to make it feel like merely preventing the arming of teachers is a win for gun-control proponents. It certainly looks like an Overton Window gambit.
Yet again we're seeing Conservative values on full display here. Just as they preach family values while they have prostitutes on speed dial on their burner phone (I'm not making that up), or as they will gladly foot the bill to arm teachers with guns, yet teachers have to pay for their own supplies such as markers and pens out of their own pocket on a teachers salary, or they carry a strong opinion against abortions, calling it the murder of children, yet they dispassionately discredit and blame children who have been slain en masse, shaming them for not doing more to stop their assailant and dismissing them as crisis actors, or as they claim that pornography, not guns, is a public health hazard and objectifies women, yet endorse messages such as "Grab'em by the pussy", endorse peers who engage in domestic violence and abuse, endorse peers known for pedophilia, and speak suggestively about and to their own children as Trump does with Ivanka?
When the national tax code is rewritten overnight, in secret, with ink pen in the margins and whole pages crossed out so that billionaires such as the Koch Brothers can enjoy an extra $22,000,000 per week while a teacher gets an extra $1.50 per week, skyrocketing our national debt, despite the ad nauseum complaints of previous leadership trying to bankrupt the country, and that these small increases due to the changes are permanent for the billionaires but not for the teacher.
Conservatism is just fortune, power, pride, superiority, and fragile ego. It's disgusting and the few that post consistently on this board are, in fact, perfect representations of the Conservative element within this country.

Some conservatives, Doc. Not all. Some liberals have done their own versions. The extremists play the same game in mirror image. The agitators get all the attention and the problem solvers get suspicion. But at the moment I would say that you're right. I can't take any conservative seriously who doesn't disavow that malignant POS Wayne LaPierre. He wants single party dominance enforced by militias that march to his tune. He should be in prison--at the very least.
You say some Conservatives, Mak. A guy like Trump doesn't get elected in a vacuum. I would just say whatever it is you're describing right now is the exception, the rare exception, within the Conservative movement.
