Re: Trump attempted assassination at Rally Today?! He was bleeding
What would you hope comes out of this situation, and what do you suppose Trump’s gestures will do to advance that outcome?
You see, I think it makes the situation a lot worse. And, whether Trump thought through the ramifications of his actions or not (I would not be surprised if he did not), his overall posture in the world is to act without thinking in an aggressive manner. So, this is not a surprise.
Indeed, though sad, tragic, and catastrophic, none of this should be a surprise, nor is it one particular group or person’s fault (excepting the blame appropriately assigned to the dead gunman).
I apologize for offending you by moving quickly to the fallout from this. I am very sad for the bystander who was killed. Trump seems to be OK, right? At least he is not in the hospital fighting for his life like the late, great Ronald Reagan, after his assassination attempt. There was an attempted assassination of a former US President a few hours ago - Someone else was killed a few hours ago - Do you think it's appropriate on your part to express how worried you are that Trump will use his bullet to his head for evil purposes? Maybe you could have waited to share your deep personal concerns for a few hours? Maybe wait at least long enough for the blood to dry on the side of his head?
To be frank, when radical right wing Republicans refuse to take steps to increase gun safety in the aftermath of the slaughter of many children by a deranged gunman, and this kind of event happens over and over again, but those NRA donations are just too important in the GOP to save the lives of future kids, that Donald Trump was grazed by a bullet is not going to move me to great emotion, except fear at how his followers will react.
Your reaction concerns me.
Your reaction to my post is troubling. Were you as troubled by GOP Congressional leaders not taking action to keep gunmen from getting the kind of weapon that took the lives of so many children and continues to?So was your post.
Was that awful to you? It seemed horrible and grotesque to me. Looks like we are left with the same trouble we started out with. We react to the same news quite differently, and yet neither of us are monsters because of it.
I hope we both remember that.

So true, Bill, thanks for the reminder.
We can't take farmers and take all their people and send them back because they don't have maybe what they're supposed to have. They get rid of some of the people who have been there for 25 years and they work great and then you throw them out and they're replaced by criminals.

I didn't know about that. Perhaps he was a former Trump supporter unhinged by what Trump did on Jan 6, 2021. Still, he was a supporter of eliminating all restrictions on gun ownership and use, and he was still, apparently, a registered Republican on the day of the shooting. His stance on guns alone makes him seem to be a radical extremist.
No precept or claim is more suspect or more likely to be false than one that can only be supported by invoking the claim of Divine authority for it--no matter who or what claims such authority.

Great question. To the extent that Market efficiency is correct, then Drumdude has a point. It's quite a controversial theory, however. The 2013 Nobel Prize went to three researchers in this area. One of them was a critic, Robert Shiller, and his basic point was 'volatility.'honor wrote:Then why are the lines so volatile?
I would counsel drumdude to not give up hope so quickly. The major advantage the right has over the left is eternal optimism. When they're winning, they're winning, when they're losing, their winning even more. Liberals give up immediately. Or at least, they message in the direction that should momentum matter, their messaging is momentum killing. So why do they do it? An extreme fear of being wrong is my guess. Unlike the right where being wrong or outright lying with fervor for the sake of the cause is a badge of honor, being wrong on the left is shameful. So we leftists want to get out ahead of the game and predict we're going to lose just to hedge our bets.
I'm not a a poll junkie. Those who are seem to think it's all about Independents in swing states. Would this matter to independents? Maybe. For instance, Binger may switch from Kennedy to Trump to troll Res Ipsa better. I'd want to see the reasons why it matters to independents.
The biggest risk is that liberals will back down from highlighting the dangers of Trump to democracy. Kishkumen is absolutely right to continue with telling the truth. Trump is no more of a threat than he was two days ago, he's the same threat. The radio was already at full blast.
Recently, Gunnar posted a link to Marjorie Taylor-Greene laughing and agreeing with one of her audience members outright calling for the execution of democrats. Ceeboo completely avoids the nonstop Civil War and outright execution threats from his side, and then melts down over calling someone anti-democratic who actually did in real life try to steal an election. That was the message from Marjorie Taylor-Greene yesterday, that Democrats saying Trump is anti-democratic are responsible, and then threatening the aforementioned responsible people with violence. It would be funny if it were a scene from a movie like Idiocracy that H brought up recently.

Jesus Christ, Shades. At what point are you going to put this Gad dude in the queue or Prison for misusing the quote feature? Without a doubt, Gad is the biggest abuser of quoting and describing posters. Is there any integrity left among these so-called moderators or censors? He wouldn't enjoy this if it was a fair conversation.Gadianton wrote: ↑Sun Jul 14, 2024 1:55 pmGreat question. To the extent that Market efficiency is correct, then Drumdude has a point. He was a young man with the immature brain that all young men have. As such he was always more likely than you or I to do something drastic. The same can be said of other troubled young people who commit horrendous crimes. The most important thing to keep in mind is how we are failing young people, be they Republicans or Democrats.Gunnar wrote: ↑Sun Jul 14, 2024 1:43 pmI didn't know about that. I don't see how this event increases Trump's base.
He's not a hero. I like presidents that don't get shot.
As I think EA used to say, we have four months till the election, which is an eternity in political terms.
