And then D.C. needs to take action against him be it via impeachment, 25th Amendment or whatever measure is constitutionally called for in this case.

This day needs to end with Mike in place as President and yeah, I know that could end up in a Presidential pardon but that won't solve Trump's problems state-wise.

Some of us out here in the rest of the world (me and Jens Stoltenberg, Nato secretary general, for instance) are watching.

And our jaws are down on to the floor. I never dreamed that this could happen. Why were adequate police resources not waiting in reserve on a day when there was such an obvious risk of major disorder? I am trying to imagine a mob successfully breaking into the Houses of Parliament or the German Bundestag, and I simply do not believe it would be physically possible in face of the forces that would be deployed.

How? How could this happen? Is America there any more?

Thank goodness some light has dawned in Georgia. What a dreadful end to the Trump era ... but maybe there is worse to come?

The automatic response to seeing this is "This is not the country where I grew up." But it is. That's the hard truth that we need to accept: that the potential for this existed all along: that you could cobble together a bunch of dissaffected people to believe they were saving the Republic by storming the Capital.

Something really cracked in our Republic today. In these first hours, it is hard to know the ultimate impact. What will happen at curfew tonight? What if explosives devices were planted in the capital?
