The main tank at the Okinawa Churaumi Aquarium. The 'Kuroshio Sea' holds 7,500 cubic meters (1,981,290 gallons) of water. The music accompanying the video is "Please Don't Go" by Barcelona.

p.s. - if you're going to watch, you might as well watch full screen (click the expansion button lower right). That way, after the 5 seconds of black screen at the beginning, when the second musical note is played and the video starts, you can say "Wow..."

The photo shows Juliane Koepcke, who at the age of 17 was a passenger in a small plane that disintegrated above the Amazon rainforest. She fell two miles (without a parachute, strapped to her plane seat), landing in the jungle and incurring (only) a fractured clavicle and some open wounds. The crew and other 91 passengers were killed. She then had to find her own way through the jungle:

"I had a cut on my arm and after a few days I could feel there was something in it. I took a look and a fly had laid her eggs in the hole. It was full of maggots... Later, after I was rescued it was treated and more than 50 maggots were found inside."

She encountered wreckage:
"I found another row of seats with three dead women still strapped in. They had landed head-first and the impact must have been so hard that they were buried almost two feet into the ground.

And crocodiles:
"Sometimes I would see a crocodile on the bank and it would start into the water towards me, but I was not afraid. I knew crocodiles don't tend to attack humans."

After 10 days in the Amazon she found her way to civilization. More details at CNN

Ancient Christians in America?

It is unutterably sad that so many mounds in North America (and elsewhere in the world) were destroyed in the process of creating new towns and settlements. This old newspaper clipping was posted at the Ancient Waterways bulletin board -

A mound that stood near the center of the town of Chillicothe, O., was fifteen feet high and sixty in diameter. In its demolition human bones were found in many places, and at the surface of the earth, upon pieces of bark, lay a single human skeleton covered with a mat and surrounded with various personal adornments and other articles, including a piece of copper in the shape of a cross. In a mound opened at Circleville was found a large mica mirror, three feet long, a plate of oxidized iron, and two skeletons covered with ashes and charcoal and surrounded by burnt bricks. These finds indicate that the mound builders were acquainted with many arts, and in some of them were quite expert. They certainly knew of the existence of copper on Lake Superior. Pieces of cloth have been found well preserved with some of the skeletons.

Uh, Moksha? Those photos might be a little more meaningful if you gave some background.

From http://www.playusout.com/detailed.php?recordID=982 :

Mrs. Brandts explained: ‘We had our camera set up on some rocks and were getting ready to take the picture when this curious little ground squirrel appeared, became intrigued with the sound of the focusing camera and popped right into our shot.’

Why you shouldn't mess with Boxer crabs

Image

From the annual amateur underwater photography contest at the University of Miami. This photo, taken in Indonesia by Marchione Giacomo, won best overall photo in the contest. It shows two boxer crabs (Lybia tesselata) ready for a fight. The crabs defend themselves by carrying tiny stinging sea anemones in their claws.

Intact "witch bottle" discovered

Image

CT scans and chemical analysis, along with gas chromatography... reveal the contents of the bottle to include human urine, brimstone, 12 iron nails, eight brass pins, hair, possible navel fluff, a piece of heart-shaped leather pierced by a bent nail, and 10 fingernail clippings.

Although some 200 early witch bottles have been identified, all were found opened, with their contents likely eroded or otherwise lost. This artifact, in contrast, had its cork closure still intact...

Archaeologist Mike Pitts, the editor of British Archaeology, told Discovery News, "The discovery of something so apparently bizarre, indicating a clear belief in witchcraft and forces that have nothing at all to do with conventional, approved religion, remind us that early modern England did not belong to the same world we now inhabit."
