I have to wonder if this was their plan all along?

Because Romney really did say some truly big lies last night.

Whether or not it was premeditated, it certainly is the plan now.

Will the real Mitt Romney please stand up?

I was upset last night but now I think it's a good thing. Incumbent presidents have only won the first televised debate once in history (from the six examples we have since 1976) and it appears to have had no impact on the eventual election. But more importantly, this is going to put fire in Obama's belly. Now there's no chance he'll try to coast and be safe.

I may be wrong, but I predict that this will give Romney a bump of 1-3, but, in the end, he'll still lose too many swing states to win the election. And I predict that future Obama ads will not only feature many more 47% clips, but also clips of this debate, contrasting what he said last night to what he's said throughout his campaign.

If Romney wins and gets his tax cuts and entitlement cuts through Congress and the deficit continues to grow while the rich get richer and Medicare is turned into a voucher program for people under 55 I'm going to throw that crap in Republican faces for the next four years.

by the way to Ceeboo et al...where is Romney's birth certificate? Romney's college transcripts? Why did Romney really travel to France as a young man? Is Romney really a Mormon or is he a closet Muslim? Might as well treat Romney the way Obama has been treated the past four years.

There was this cool Sci Fi novel turned movie...

You're thinking of Starship Troopers, which was a parody of militaristic fascism.

Appropriate for you, I guess.

Obama lost his chance. Next debate is town hall style which will require a far different strategy.

I predict Obama has lost forever the war of the negative narrative. From now on he will be on the defensive and won't be able to change the subject like he tried to do in the first debate. Just before the debate, America was treated to Obama lying about Katrina reconstruction funds and trying to sound black while playing the race card.

Then he lost the debate in spectacular fashion by essentially running out of ideas after he went through his easily disproven talking points in just a few minutes. It was as if he has no experience at being president at all even after four years of holding that title.

Now he's facing fallout and blowback even from his own party. Very shortly, Monday at the latest I hear, a massive donor scandal is going to hit him with millions of dollars in untraceable credit card funds, much of it from overseas, has been poured into his campaign coffers in violation of Federal election laws. There is also an undercurrent building about his involvement in Rev. Jeremiah Wright's Down Low program which will lead to how blacks ("Jesse's hires") are still being bought and sold today by Chicago's Democratic political machine. No, not even the black Mormon issue can save him now.

How have you reacted to the republicans who have obviously made it their primary goal to ensure that Obama is a one-term president, even when that entailed opposing legislation that had its origins in republican ideas? (see: ACA)

Aside from that question, of course I'll be disappointed if Romney wins. But, unlike many of our elected republicans, my primary goal isn't to keep my party in the white house, but rather to see our country do well. If Romney wins and the country does well, I'll be fine. If Romney wins and the country doesn't do well, we'll have some problems over the next four years, but in 2016 Hillary (hopefully) will be in shoe-in, and I think she would be a fine president.

I support the democratic party not because I'm blindly devoted to a party. I support them because I genuinely believe that most of their policies would be better for the country. What I want is for my country to do well. When my country does well, so do I and my family.

Another reason I don't think this loss is a bad thing. This will encourage republican funders to keep putting their money in Romney's campaign, versus funneling that money into congressional elections. Big money can make a big difference in smaller elections. I'm not convinced more money will help Romney, given the current polling of swing states, particularly Ohio. But it could have helped republicans keep more seats so they can continue their obstructionist ways. Now, there will be less for smaller elections in order to try and elect Romney. In the end, I think that's a good thing.

Like the deficit has been cut under Obama? What confidence do I have he will cut it with four more years of power? Am I supposed to vote for someone who for some reason wants the rich to get poorer? What has Obama done to shore up Medicare?

I voted for Obama four years ago. I am have become less than enthusiastic about Romney. But your argument above doesn't garnsih a lot of good reasons to support Obama. For me is who can best work with a dysfunctional congress (both the house and the senate) to fix our fiscal problems. Don't know if I have the answer yet.
