I think the last sentence of your penultimate paragraph describes her pretty well. When I first saw Musk's tweet, I read it as "Wake up sheeple -- the government's lying to you about COVID." I think I've seen it used with almost every fringe and contrarian group I've encountered. I include the manosphere and alt right groups, but I don't primarily associate it with those groups.
I don't buy this interpretation. First, because Musk is online-literate enough to know what online culture generally understands red-pilling (and the Twitter red rose for that matter) mean to know how people are going to take it. Two, because after he did it, he got a tsunami of alt-rightists celebrating him and a large people criticizing him on those terms and he didn't respond to that with, "No, no, what I mean is..." The best case scenario interpretation here is that he was playing with the term as a joke and not caring about how he should know people will take it. Musk has a history of coming off as a trollish idiot, so that's plausible. Or he just might mean it.

Why would he post the rose if it means democratic socialism?

Cause he might find the contrast amusing. So clever. Or it might be the fact that he sort of hangs out in vicinity of the Sanders/alt-light nexus (see our very own DT). Also, his girlfriend is a socialist, or at least was until she got into a relationship with a billionaire. I don't follow Grime's personal life enough to know if having access to unfathomable riches has changed her views on whether socialism is good, but it wouldn't be surprising if the answer to that question is, "yes." If not, could be a reference to hands across the aisle. Who knows? Chances are the dude knows what red rose Twitter is about, though. While I think his intelligence is vastly overstated by people who confuse what his companies do with him, he's extremely online enough and smart enough to know what he was saying normally means.

Hey, I looked it up. Grimes did go from hardcore socialist to, now that her boyfriend is a borderline robber baron, somewhat backing off of it, but in a nonsensical way. Every step of the way she comes off as flaky with an inch-deep understanding of what she's talking about, but she's a musical genius and has a ton of money, so she's got that.

I can never figure out what socialism means for each person who espouses it. I suppose in her case it’s capitalism with strong social programs. From the googz she’s worth $3M. I just listened to some samples of her music and it’s alright. It’d be nice to listen to on MDA or tripping balls, I guess. I’m not sure I’d rely on her for a solid understanding of macroeconimcs, though.

Well, the best reformed red quote I got from Grimes was, "“I, actually, for the short term, am a bit of a socialist, but not economically” which was hilarious. What does that even mean? I think it means something like, "I like Bernie Sanders, but also it's good when my boyfriend crushes unions because his electric cars will save the planet and let me have extravagant things." If you're wondering what the long-term is, it's that democracy is a failure and dictatorship by robots is inevitable and welcome. So, everything seems to check out.

Let's get something straight here, though. Grimes might be a nutter in a relationship with a douchebag, but her music is sublime.

Well. I'll respect your choice of music because that's your vibe. I have some fairly eclectic tastes in music, so I don't begrudge anyone theirs.

I can buy trolling idiot. But not that Musk interprets the term the way you do. Or maybe the next model Tesla will come in Pepe green. Who knows.

RI - What do you think Musk meant with the immediate follow up joke of taking Dayquil and Nyquil at the same time as taking "both" pills at the same time if not a juxtaposition between red rose Twitter and red pilling? In what other interpretation are those opposites?
