Survivalism and Mormonism

Recently I've been reading up on survivalists (people who try to be prepared in every way in case of a societal breakdown brought about by whatever natural disaster/plague/nuclear attack/zombies/etc) and was thinking that Mormons might have a leg up in the food storage department. So a couple questions:

1) Do a lot Mormons really store large amounts of food?

2) Any Survivalists type folk on the board?

3) Do you suffer from insomnia, because that's what is fueling this thread (j/k)?

Yeah...that's what got me started in the survivalist interest (seeing that zombie book and some reviews)...I'm getting that book as soon as I can find it somewhere...and I'll never be without my machete and AK-47 ever again....although the push lawnmower may be a tad excessive [10 points to the person who picks up that zombie movie reference]

Edit: So back to my first question....did/do any of you exmos/LDS store alot of food?

Well, I could be considered a "Survivalist", I guess. Not that I've got a bunker or anything, but I do have a six month supply of food, about two months of drinking water and filtration systems for making more, a fairly large genny with enough fuel for about 2000hrs of continious operation, enough firearms and ammo to scare the Texas Army National Guard into fits, communications gear (CB/HAM), and I've gone through SERE.

I took that "always be prepared" crap seriously when I was in the Scouts as a kid.

I remember my first couple of weeks in boot. Went to bed at night praying "God" would be kind enough to let me die peacefully in my sleep and woke up in the mornings pissed because "god" didn't listen to me. Also noticed that after the first week, as soon as the lights went out you were usually asleep with in the first three minutes and that when the lights came on you were mystically teleported from laying in your rack to stanind on that damned yellow line.

Who needs ambien, we've been to an MCRD.

Alright....you sound pretty prepared to me...if there's ever a zombie situation I'm heading for your neck of the woods. I'll bring coffee and beer too, something every person needs in a survival situation :)
