Who makes $$ off this spam bot business?

I'm just curious who generates the spam bot stuff and how they make money off it. Anyone know? Is there much money to be made from it?
Well, the porn sites pay spammers. The hope is that someone will join their porn site.
It's pretty cheap to send spam. Once you have a bot programmed, you can essentially post thousands of ads. If even a dozen people sign up for your site, it was worth it.
