Labor shortage is due to the fact that this country doesn't reproduce as much as it used to, and this is peak time for baby boomers to retire. This is why we need more immigration.
The only labor shortage is for cheap labor. The jobs you've created pay so poorly that they can't even compete with government stimulus checks.
[deleted, FR 2, RI] I just provided the data indicating we have a shortage of high paying jobs like doctors, scientists, engineers, etc.

"In 2015, the total number of foreign-born electrical engineers was 62,105, but they made up 28.4 percent of all electrical engineers."

Wouldn’t less workers force companies to compete for their labor and talent, thus driving up wages and growing the middle class?

Yes, that is what drives up wages. When workers have more leverage, as in collective bargaining via unions. This has the same effect because it makes companies realize their employees provide more value to them than they realized.

My 17 year old daughter got a job working retail at the outlet mall. She works at the Puma store selling sports apparel and shoes, making a whopping $15/hr!

We need more immigration. A full 29% of all US based doctors were born in other countries. We cannot even reproduce and educate ourselves as a rate to adequately sustain ourselves.

"According to the Association of American Medical Colleges, the demand for foreign-trained doctors will only increase in the US as the growing need for accessible, affordable healthcare in the United States continues to increase. They found that the country will continue to need more doctors than it can train in time to replace a large number of professionals retiring in the next few years. The projected shortfall is of between 46,100 and 90,400 doctors by 2025, mostly in primary care."

Our scientific innovation is dependent upon immigrants too.

Science in the US is built on immigrants. Will they keep coming?

If the economy is going to be destroyed, why worry about paying off all your debt?

Because Jesus loves a responsible prepper?

In a year.

You need to buy candles, lots of candles. And starburst, did you know you can live on starburst and water and nothing else. I have 1000lbs of starburst buried in my backyard. I also have 500 cases of Mike's Hard Lemonade to barter with all the yuppies when Biden destroys the economy. Ohohoh! Also toilet paper!! Restaurant Depot has a sale on toilet paper right now. I suggest stocking up. I have 1759 large rolls of toilet paper. I'll have the cleanest crack of anyone during the Biden crash!

Job creation roars back in October as payrolls rise by 531,000

https://www.cnbc.com/2021/11/05/jobs-re ... -2021.html
Nonfarm payrolls increased by 531,000 for the month, compared to the Dow Jones estimate of 450,000. The unemployment rate had been expected to edge down to 4.7%.

Private payrolls were even stronger, rising 604,000 as a loss of 73,000 government jobs pulled down the headline number. October’s gains represented a sharp pickup from September, which gained 312,000 jobs after the initial Bureau of Labor Statistics estimate of 194,000 saw a substantial upward revision in Friday’s report.
So Biden's economy beat expectations on jobs by 81,000 in October and we get a 118,000 upward revision for September.

Notice also government job losses are what's hindering the employment picture. Under a Democrat President. A "Socialist"? Yeah, right. Government job numbers also plummeted under Obama.

Wage was growth up a whopping 4.9% in October, effectively nullifying the hysteria over inflation.

Jobs number for the previous two months were adjusted upwards by 240,000. That's nearly an 800,000 upward swing, driving the unemployment rate down another two points.

Over Biden's first nine months an average of 620,000 jobs have been added monthly. That's 5.4 million more jobs than the economy saw added over four years of Trump.

The monthly average for new jobs during Trump's first three pre-COVID years was a measley 198,000. After his last year that dropped into the negative.

Tell us again how Democrat adminiatrations lead to job losses.

Yesterday's inflation number (6.2% inflation year over year) was high. But US household debt just hit an all-time high, mortgage delinquencies have fallen to 2017 levels, the financial stress index is near all-time lows, and leading indicators suggest that inflation may have peaked and may cool off from here. It sucks to pay $3.50 per gallon or whatever, but that's hardly ruining our lives at the moment.

Yes, you pay stimulus back later in the forms of higher taxes or inflation. But that's the point of stimulus. It smooths out the economy's ups and downs. When the crisis is over and times are good, you can afford higher taxes or inflation. Bipartisan stimulus prevented a lot of suffering during the pandemic, and it also prevented a lot of permanent economic destruction. 2025 output and productivity will be higher because we did stimulus in 2020.

4.9% wage increase helps offset most of that 6.2% inflation. Things cost more, but you're also getting paid more. If people would just calm the hell down maybe they'd realize we're basically at just 1.3% inflation. Also, in my view one of the biggest silver linings of the pandemic is that it spurred wage increases to levels Republicans had always assured us were not feasible if companies want to make money. $15/hr was too much they said, and now companies are hiring well above that in the retail industry alone.
