A bit off-topic. Reduced Bail

Post by _Runtu »

The druggie who broke into my house and scared the crap out of my daughter is currently languishing in the Utah County Jail.

Until today, bail was a cash-only $30,000, meaning that he could not get out of jail unless he came up with that amount (no bail bonds would be accepted). I just noticed that bail has been reduced to $9999. I can't tell if this is cash only, but I'm assuming that his attorney got it reduced so that he can get out on bond.

I don't really want to tell my daughter that this guy may be on the streets any day.

Am I understanding this correctly?

It's likely. It's christmas time and you know how they are always complaining that the jails are full. They probably reduced bail to relieve overcrowding over the holidays. That's my guess--I'm sorry.

Unfortunately, that's my guess, too. If I were a betting man, I'd bet he'll be back to burglary as soon as he's out. That's how things worked out the last two times he was out on bail.

Call one of the arresting officers and ask them but I think A.I. is right.

You don't think he will retaliate, do you?

I don't think so, but I think my daughter has felt a little safer knowing that he's been behind bars. People keep telling me that burglary victims feel violated, but I can't get past his scaring my daughter so badly. She still has nightmares about it.

I hate to hear that your daughter is having nightmares, John. I wouldn't think he'd retaliate, either. He might not even know where he was, you know?

She handled the situation so well. I really enjoyed the news clip.

Does she know how to handle a firearm?

Why would she?

Is that a high school course now?

I must be out of the loop.

"Does she know how to handle a firearm?"
"Why would she?"

She would if you had taught her. It is simple. Hunting, target practice and shooting clubs. Olympic shooting is an honored sport worldwide. You have a right to keep and use firearms so why not take advantage of that right. Whether you choose to keep them after learning the basics is up to you but not learning about them is foolish and (MY opinion) stupid in todays world.

As for finding out about bail, why not call the County Attorney or Prosecuting attorneys office and asking? That or the arresting officers?

If you think the idiot will retaliate in any fashion make sure he is IN YOUR HOUSE before you shoot him. IF you shoot him make damn sure the bum is dead so your story of self defense after he said he was going to shoot you (and reached behind his back as if to get a pistol) is the only story the cops will hear.

If you got burgled once the chances of it happening again go up. Failing to prepare is stupid.
