DVD Recorder
I don't have cable or satellite, just UHF/VHF antenna w/DV converter box. I would still like to record onto DVD some broadcasts. VHS and other formats to DVD also. Cost somewhat of a factor. What do you recommend?

Re: DVD Recorder
DVD recorders are pretty much a commodity these days, with little variation among the major brands. Anything by Sony, Panasonic, Samsung, JVC, or Toshiba should be fine (Philips/Magnavox and RCA are lower tier but will also do). If you can match the brand of your TV, you'll usually find the remote integrates a little easier (i.e. it can control both the DVD and the TV without special programming).
Just make sure it has an ATSC tuner. If you have an HDTV, make sure the DVD recorder has an HDMI output (most will), and upscaling to 1080p is a plus (most will).

If you don't need to record to DVD and just want to watch stuff later, definitely look at the TIVO route. It will change your life. If you have an extra computer lying about and you have some computer skillz, you can add a digital TV tuner and use the computer as a TIVO and it won't require a monthly fee (you can even put a DVD burner in the computer and burn stuff to DVD if you want).

Re: DVD Recorder
Thanks! I had wondered about doing it directly on my computer. We actually have an old Canopus A to D card. I do have some skillz.
