Why I Got No Sleep Last Night

I didn't feel sleepy, so I stayed up pretty late. Finally, I let my dog, Daisy, out to go potty so I could go on to bed. She's old and feeble and had a benign, plum sized tumor growing on her chest that the vet and I determined to just let be because it wasn't bothering Daisy and she's likely too feeble to endure a surgery well, anyway.

Well, the operative word there was HAD a tumor, because when I retrieved Daisy from going potty, I discovered it HANGING OUT of her chest. It was terrifying and looked just awful. Blood was gushing out of her. It was so scary. I awoke my kids by shouting for help and little Annie came running down the stairs. I was wrapped around Daisy, but when I pulled away to apply bandages to her wound, Annie screamed, "Her heart is hanging out!!" I was covered in Daisy's blood. Annie is still traumatized today.

I spent the night at the Animal Emergency Clinic. I wrote more about the story on my blog.

The good news is that Daisy seems better now, and she's got a stylin' new look:

So tired,

How on earth did it break through the skin from the inside?

Wow. That's incredible. It's amazing Daisy survived.

Shades, Daisy either chewed at the tumor or ripped her chest on something in the back yard. I'm betting she chewed it.

Cinepro, my house should be featured on Animal Planet! My cat broke his tail a couple months ago. I gave a drowned rat CPR. I once dug a meowing cat out of a large trash receptacle in the middle of the night in an alleyway in East San Diego, and I did it without waking the homeless men sleeping there. My kids brought home eight stray puppies once. A long time ago, I rescued a dog that I found sitting on an abandoned couch on a rarely traveled dirt road. He was too cute to pass by. And I cannot count the number of turtles I've gotten off the road. Dozens. One was a snapping turtle and bit the end of my shoe almost completely off, lol!

Nuts,

KA

Ahh, I see.

I once dug a meowing cat out of a large trash receptacle in the middle of the night in an alleyway in East San Diego, . . . My kids brought home eight stray puppies once. A long time ago, I rescued a dog that I found sitting on an abandoned couch on a rarely traveled dirt road.

What did you do with the cat, the eight puppies, and the dog?

Yeah, you need your own reality show. The Cupcake Vet Clinic, or something...

The cat was given to my parents. His name was, appropriately, Stinky. After all, I did find him in the garbage. He lived a long and happy life.

The eight puppies, sadly, all had parvo and were put down by the vet. That was a crummy day.

The dog I rescued from the abandoned couch was named DeerDog because he was a really odd looking creature. He looked like a chihuahua on stilts. I called my pets' veterinarian and she found a home for DeerDog right away, because he was an adult dog and still quite small. Smaller dogs have an easier time finding homes.

I've brought home more stray animals than I can count. Tons. But I've only kept a few. I've managed to find homes for them.
