Grossest thing you ever ate...

Post by _truth dancer »

OK, thanks to Ray's suggestion....

What is the grossest thing you ever ate?

Brussel sprouts are on the top of my list only topped by some sort of reconstituted pretend meat stuff our ward was promoting for food storage. It looked like little specks of raw meat but it was really some sort of other unknown material that you mixed with water and it was supposed to imitate hamburger. It literally made me sick. In fact just thinking about it is making me gag.

Now, not being a meat eater, even hamburger would probably make me sick but this stuff was just plain NASTY! Needless to say, I declined the food storage containers full of this stuff. I would rather starve!

Hot English mustard on a hot dog. Originally coming from the Caribbean I thought I could handle hot and spicy foods, but one day I made the fatal mistake of liberally spreading HOT English mustard on my HOT dog, and it ended up coming through my nose. I felt like calling the fire brigade.

Anyhing with mayo is the grossest thing I've ever had. Miriacle Whip would be a close second.

Other than those two I also had some dishes gone bad such as when my dad made macorini and cheese with rancid butter, or the time my sister-in-law made some cornbread in a pan with rancid oil.

As for the fake meat stuff, I agree that it's not very good, but my family found it was tolerable if we used it as a substitute for taco meat. I think it was called TVP or Textured Vegetable Protein.

Hi Asbestosman,

OMG, so you know about what I am talking! LOL!

I seriously could not get that stuff down.

Being a vegetarian I have eaten all sorts of veggie burgers but let me tell you, that stuff was wicked!

I've flirted with vegetarianism. Not vegan, that's too strict. But I find it nearly impossible to avoid the occasional juicy hamburger with onions, lettuce, beetroot (Aussie style), tomato and "ketchup", which we call tomato sauce. But I do prefer sweet chilli sauce, or even hot chilli sauce.

And oh, how could I ever give up Turkisk kebabs?

There goes my vegetarian fantasy out the window.

(I must sound like an animal to you, TD.)

Hi Ray,

I'm actually fine with other people eating meat, but it is not for me.

And no, you are not an animal, well, maybe one of the cute stuffed Koalas or something! :-)

I don't know, but I certainly couldn't give those up either.

I could really get into falaffels though.

Oh, here is another one: Slimy oatmeal. GROSS!

I love organic steel cut oatmeal with maple syrup from Canada but that slimy stuff is so disgusting!
