Re: Music Thread
By the way, "metal" is snowflake music, not the music of "real men" and bad-ass tough guys.
Metal musicians and their fans are psychologically weak. I do enjoy the genre and long ago I played in a couple of (lame) bands, but I think we need to be honest, even when it's not in our self-interest to be honest.
There are tragic stories behind the best metal musicians, and they do indeed make for sympathetic people. These people, and their fans, are the outcasts. They are the hurt. The unaccepted. The victims of terrible childhoods. They are people who seek attention; to align themselves with a powerful force that their abusers -- often construed as society in general -- "can't handle". There is serious talent behind some of the music; prog metal and tech-death have gotten ridiculously complex. But what doesn't exist behind this music is a core of "tough guys". Granted, It's possible that some of the newer artists are more stable as the shock value of old is recast in social media as good fun and fit for self-parody.
If I think of music associated with real "bad asses" that the rest of us should fear, I think of much simpler, upbeat kind of music. A guy rides into a stadium on a donkey, and with mic in hand, sings about the troubles of his appearance, his lost loves, his poor means of living as nylon strings pluck and brass wails and slides. That's right, simple Mexican folk music. Don't get me wrong, this is music that all kinds of people love and I've heard it makes for the most fun concerts. I'm just pointing out that the guy from a poor circumstance who didn't have time to feel sorry for himself and worked his way up in the cartel; the guy who without flinching will cut you into 27 pieces with a knife and then smile and have a beer with his friends. This isn't a guy listening to metal and screaming "f u" at everybody who hurts him. This is a guy happily humming along to traditional, family stuff.

Re: Music Thread
Real men conservatives probably go with music that is atonal and discordant, perhaps with tugboat horns in the background and cowbells. Plenty of cowbells.
