Just got news of a paycut- Merry Christmas

10% paycut until further notice beginning immediately. Last year got basically the same news which amounted to them taking back the end of the year 12/2008 bonus they had just handed out plus a couple of hundred more. Bonuses are based on profit, but the early 2009 paycut was based on decreased in business. Maybe 2+2 doesn't = 4. This year, no bonus of course. It sort of bites as they have had 6 mo. this past year that they haven't had to pay two employees whose combined salaries totaled approx. $195,000.00/year. Make that one other additional employee who was recently deployed whose salary was approx. 95,000+/year.

Instead of complaining why not start your own business so you don't have to rely on these guys? Maybe you would find out just what it really takes to be successful.

Sorry about your paycut, Ms. Nobody. It sucks that they would do that at the holiday. My husband works for a large company and we faced the same thing. No bonuses for the past two years and no raises. We're grateful that his job didn't get cut, but it's still hard.
I work for the state college system. They haven't raised our salaries for three years.

It's Christmas. She got some news that sucks. Haven't you ever been through a hard time where you just needed some empathy?
Perhaps not.

Hi nobody,
From a staff perspective, your employer couldn't have had worse timing! We didn't get our annual raises last summer. With the economy the way it is, I didn't expect it but it would have been nice if our employer had at least acknowledged it. They didn't! That time of year came and went with no mention of giving or withdrawing pay raises which I thought was bad form to say the least.
I think that once the sting of this is behind you, you will have to dwell on the fact that you have a job in these economic hard times and count your blessings in that regard.
Tread water!

Just learned today from the owner of the business that the paycut is due to the company having a deadline of March 15th to get company contributions for employee 401K put into employee retirment accounts. So, In other words, employees are footing the bill for "company contributions" to their own 401K. Paycuts will last through the first quarter. Grrr!

On top of that, Obama Claus is going to bring you a "temporary (he'll call it temporary) refund adjustment" on your taxes.

I thought that the Bush tax cuts were still in place for 2009.
