After last night's episode, methinks Astor and Cody are effectively off the show.
I see Julia Stiles is slated to show up this season. I'm interested to see what they do with her.
So far this season is moving really slow.

I think you're right.
If they are doing away with Rita, then they need to move more quickly on pushing the show back to its original format. Dexter needs to get back to work.
I really wanted to see Deb and Masuka together instead of Deb and Quinn.
My favorite line in this last show was after Masuka was complaining about all the blood, Deb saying to their boss, "Masuka really likes these bloody cases that Dexter normally handles. He told me he would love to have more."
I just love how they screw with each other. It's funny. It would be cute to see the nerdy guy get the girl, but it probably won't happen.
I have to admit, Quinn is cute, though. I don't have a problem seeing him naked. LOL

He changed how he combs his hair this season. Looks very "Mormon" other than the tattoos.

I enjoyed this last episode. The cat-and-mouse game between Dexter and the road kill guy was fun. Julia Stiles' character was introduced at the end of the episode as a prisoner of the road kill killer.
Right before Dexter killed road kill guy and discovered the woman (Lumen), he said, "I want my wife back." I'm just wondering if that's foreshadowing of a relationship between Dexter and Lumen. It would be interesting if he finally gets a woman in his life whom he does not have to lie to, who isn't psychotic and recklessly homicidal like Lila.

I enjoyed the last episode, too. It seemed more like the "old formula" Dexter, which is what drew me to the show to begin with.
I think it will be a while, though, before Dexter actually becomes romantically involved with someone.
what are your thoughts on the new nanny? I think there is going to end up being something up with her, too.....She is too "perfect". I'm wondering if she is going to be tied up in this cult case somehow.
I LOVED the opening scene with Deb interviewing the nannies. THAT was priceless!
I'm getting tired of Quinn making trouble for Dexter, though. I just wish that whole storyline would drop. The whole "Kyle Butler" thing is getting old. I am warming up to the whole Deb/Quinn romance possibility, though. Maybe it just has to do with the fact that I like seeing Quinn naked. LOL

That was exactly how I felt, Liz. It felt more like a "Season 1 Episode" than anything on the show has felt in a long time.

Well, the previews for the next episode show her quitting, and
SPOILER Julia Stiles has said in interviews that her character will become Dexter's new nanny. So I'm a little skeptical that the current nanny is going to be significant plot-wise, though using Maria Doyle Kennedy as a two-episode disposable character does seem like a waste. Given the preview for next week's episode, I think the point of this nanny is to demonstrate that Dexter needs to find a nanny who is so committed to the job that she does not mind pulling all-nighters unannounced.
I've done a lot more thinking about the conversation between Boyd and Dexter just before Boyd's death. Some thoughts/questions:
- Boyd was definitely a low-level player for something bigger. He does not round up his victims himself. (He tells Dexter that he has no idea what he's getting into.)
- Boyd stated that he was helping his victims by putting them out of their misery. This could have been typical self-justification of wrongdoing, but Lumen also had lacerations on her back when Dexter found her. Could these wounds be self-inflicted?
- Lumen is going to offer Dexter some measure of redemption. He did for her what he was unable to do for Rita, i. e. save her life, and if Rita had been alive, he likely would not have been there to save Lumen.

Yeah, I hadn't watched the previews on the Showtime website before my suspicions regarding the nanny. Still....Deb made an interesting comment when Dexter decided to hire her. She said, "I wonder what made her leave Ireland.."
That's why I wondered if something was going to turn up later regarding the Nanny.
I think that there is going to turn out to be a connection between Boyd and the cult case that Deb and the squad are running. The "take it" guy on the recording that Boyd always listened to was a big clue. I think that the guy on the recording must be the leader of this "Santa Muerta" cult somehow.
Maybe the girls that Boyd was killing were already targeted for murder in some way. Remember..he said, "I'm just putting them out of their misery..."
LOL It's sad how much "Dexter" fans analyze this stuff, but that's what makes the show fun!
In any case, I'm definitely re-addicted. I can't wait for Sunday! I just washed my "Dexter" T-shirt. It's ready to wear this Sunday night! LOL

My favorite scene was when the lieutenant reamed out Quinn for questioning Trinity's family about Dexter being Kyle Butler.
It looks like the Irish nanny is going to be in the picture a little while longer.
Interesting development with Lumen going after the guys who held her captive.
Looks like next week will be another good episode!

That last episode was Zzzzz. Especially the idiotic scene with Lumen at the airport. "Women who have been raped don't like being felt up!" Seriously, writers, is that the best you can come up with? The subplots were all boring as hell too.
I hold out hope that the next episode will pick up, but so far I'm really thinking that killing Rita was jumping the shark.
(Oh, but the scene with Masuka with his huge back tattoo in his underwear was pretty funny.)
