Book suggestions?

I'm between book groups right now and I need a book suggestion. I'd love something riveting--the kind you can't wait to pick up again when you have to put it down. I've had my fill of Mormon history, so anything other than that. Any suggestions would be much appreciated! :-)

Atlas Shrugged by Ayn Rand was one of the best books I ever read.

If you need something lighter, then Dan Brown's Angels and Demons was another of the best books I ever read.

Are we talking fiction or non-fiction? I have read shelves of fiction of all ages (my mother was an elementary school librarian and introduced me to Potter before anyone knew much about it).... So I go across the board.

But if your talking non-fiction, I'd be lost. I just rather enjoy fantasy and science fiction.

Lucinda,

It appears that you're looking for fiction and I pretty much read only non-fiction, none of it riveting! Most of what I read is work related in some way. I'll look forward to see what recommends come up in this thread though!

I don't know how you feel about Thoreau's Walden. I read it annually and have done so for years. It's like visiting an old friend each time and I never fail to take something new away from it in the way of wisdom.

Also like to curl up with the poetry of Robert Frost.

Sorry, I'm not exactly the "riveting" type.

:-)

Thanks--I'm going to try "Atlas Shrugged." Looking forward to it. I enjoyed "Angels and Demons" as well.

I really like those genres too. I also love historical fiction.

It's been a long time since I've read that. Maybe I need to pick it up again. I feel the same way about "A Tree Grows in Brooklyn"--that's one that I could read once a year.

Anne McCaffrey's "Dragons of Pern" series. Her son is now writing sequels which close up some of the loopholes.

To get a good feel about Ayn Rand and Atlas Shrugged you may want to read one of the many essay winners over the years. The contest gives some lucky college student $10,000 for first place every year. After reading a few of these essays from vaious books of Ayn Rand you just might want to read all of her books.

Will keep you busy for quite a while. I'm playing around with the idea of reading them again, but really too busy with that other project.
