Don't feel so smug on he East Coast. A 4.3 shaker his a bit above New York, between Ottawa and Montreal, Canada yesterday.
The East Coast and into the central US has a history of some good shakers with some doing major damage to property as well as causing loss of life.
Take a look at
http://earthquake.usgs.gov/earthquakes/states/
and check out where you live. Japan has been hit but it could as easily have been Missouri, the Carolinas, Oregon or many places in the US. A Tsunami like hit Japan would leave major damage along the East Coast of the US.

What do you suppose the Canadians did to offend God? Maybe it's their evil health care system?

Another two in Arkansas, one on Texas and Oklahoma and North Carolina. All bigger than the swarm of them in Utah. Then a bigger one in Idaho.
Wait til Utah has an 8+ shaker and the rocks roll downhill to crush the McMansions built high on the sand shoreline of the East bench and half the valley sinks into the quicksand way down to the kennecott polluted ground water.
It's coming and not many places really offer safety. Apparently only one state has no recorded earthquakes originating in it since records have been kept. Safe... or lurking & waiting for a bigger one?

My dad says it's all just another sign of the Rapture, which he believes, from listening to Family Media, will take place on May 21. Apparently, this is because May 21 will be the seven thousandth anniversary of the Flood. I find this strange, because any serious Christian knows that Creation didn't even take place until 4004 B.C., much less the Flood. :-)
