SL County GOP bucks Governor, Legislature and Church

The Salt Lake County GOP decided to buck the State Legislature and the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints at their latest tea party.
"Salt Lake County Republicans, defying an appeal from Gov. Gary Herbert, adopted a resolution Saturday urging the state to overturn its new guest-worker law.
The County GOP also refused to support a resolution supporting the so-called Utah Compact, which outlines principles such as respecting the rule of law and avoiding unnecessarily separating families that should guide the immigration debate."

"The Utah Compact is a set of ideals stressing humane treatment of undocumented residents and the need for a federal solution. It was endorsed by a broad range of Utah religious, business and community leaders.
The Utah Compact, in addition to calling for a federal-based, humane solution to immigration, says local law enforcement should focus on crime, not civil laws; expresses a desire to keep families together; and recognizes the economic contributions of immigrants."
The sheer act of nay saying something signed off on by the LDS Church, stands as a point of defiance by this new breed of ravening republicanism. Once this lunatic fringe was coalesced into a cohesive group by the Satanic tea party movement from the Fox Advocacy Group, they were able to wrest control of the Utah Republican Party from those who retained both loyalty to the Church, but even more importantly a sane grasp on public policy.
Way to go Fox.

So, you're saying that you want political parties to be "loyal" to specific religions?

Not really. In many ways, Mormon-Republicans defying the Church in order to express their feelings against immigration stands as an affirmation to freedom of thought and speech. They are also positing that the average Utah voter would not side with the Church on this issue. This boldness in defying the Church should be credited to those tea loving folks at the Fox Advocacy Group. Once you get an unruly mob of Fox listeners together, it is hard to know how much damage they will cause on their march to the sea.

I suppose it really depends on whether or not they are actually defying the Church. There is specific doctrine on homosexuality for example. But is there specific doctrine on immigration?

Once the prophet has spoken, the thinking has been done. You have your marching orders. Are you a loyal latter-day saint or not?

The prophet doesn't seem to have spoken plus there doesn't seem to be any doctrine about the thinking being done.

The church doesn't take positions on political issue without the say so of the prophet.
Now, follow your prophet. Unless you're a part of those fifth column conservative malcontents, always trying to second guess the prophet, imagining they know more than the mouthpiece of God.

The Church reiterated their support of the Utah Compact the other day.
