Interesting article, but I don't think evangelist Christians will ever support Romney. The Moron Church is too far out of the main stream for them. I believe that they view it as an anti-Christian cult.

More frightening for the evangelical Republicans is that Romney supported an "Obamacare" style health care plan while governor of Massachusetts.

If Romney looks to be in the driver's seat in the lead up to the nomination, Obama would do well to repeatedly trumpet Romney as a great inspiration towards passage of national healthcare. In many ways, Romneycare has eclipsed Mormonism as Romney's achilles heel.

This election should be decided by economic policy. I doubt the Republicans will be able to make much hay of of national defense this cycle and any Republican who tries to make social issues important this cycle is going to be crushed with "what about the economy/jobs?" criticism. So a "business" guy like Romney should have a better chance than he would in cycles where social wedge issues take precedence. That being said I think the Tea Party wing of the party that controls many of the early caucuses will select a far-right nominee. Romney will have to crush the New Hampshire and South Carolina primaries if he is to have any chance.

Very insightful, B23.

With the Republicans veering way to the right (Tea Party), I'm guessing that they will end up with someone with no chance of beating Obama like Michele Bachmann or maybe even Sarah Palin (if she runs). I think Newt is toast at this point. With Huckabee out of the race, it's wide open.

Thanks. I predict (barring some insane economic relapse) that with the continued gradual economic recovery Obama should steam roll whoever the Republicans nominate. With Obama's recent national security score (I think most Americans associate him with the Osama kill if only because he's the sitting President as well as the now iconic photo of him with the look somewhat colder that glacier ice) national defense is being taken off the debate thing. What are they going to say in a debate when Obama can respond "I took out Osama". Socially abortion isn't a huge national issue at the moment (compared to during better economic times) and gay marriage continues to grow in popularity so social wedge issues are thin right now for Republicans. In addition the release of the birth certificate leaves birtherism too the 20-30% who aren't going to vote Obama anyway.

I agree with your suggestion that a Bachmann or some other far right politician will get nominated, and I think that person will be crushed. Perhaps not Reagan in 1984 or Johnson in 1964, but at least 350 electoral votes.

8%+ unemployment and high gas prices will make it hard for Obama to get reelected. The catastrophic nature of his economic policies is gradually becoming obvious to even dense Democrats. His major hope is massive voter fraud in critical states. My wife studied voter fraud in Illinois and it's bad (though, of course, Illinois is a safe state for Obama).

I think Romney and Santorum are our best overall candidates..... I never knew much about Santorum, but hearing him at the 1st Republican Debate and I was impressed, clearly wining in the field that was in that debate. Cain I think came a close second however.

I think Romney Pres and Santorum VP would be the best ticket.
I was going for Romney Pres and Alex Jones VP, but seeing Santorum I think I might switch.
Cain I don't think is really ready yet.

Also, as to Romney, I'm actually disappointed that even some Conservatives don't know and understand him better. Sadly, they misrepresent his views on Abortion as well as his Massachusetts Health Care bill, views, etc. It's like with his recent presentation on Health Care, I was disappointed in even Fox's representation of his presentation. It was a very powerful and articulate presentation..... Romney is amazingly intelligent. But they take out of context one of his comments and then create a whole anti-Romney campaign on it in the news cycle.

Everyone please watch this: http://www.c-span.org/Events/Former-Gov ... 7421499-1/

Of course, I have the same problem with the birther issue. While Fox hasn't really promoted that at all, they haven't promoted the actual problem, and that is that Obama's not "natural born". Birthplace is a lesser issue, the other fact is provable. One of his parent's were not a citizen, when the law requires "two" citizen parents. But, despite the rare human flaw by Fox, they are heads above CNN, and a million years above the slim of MSNBC. Anyway....
