Maybe the program was not as bad as some keep saying?
I agree.
I fully support government "bailouts" (i.e. loans) to companies that will rebound to solvency and repay the loan with interest. Unless that company is one of my competitors, in which case I object to the use of taxpayer money to help them survive.
I strongly object, however, to bailouts for companies that will ultimately fail in spite of the bailout and lose the taxpayer funded loan.

On a related note I highly recommend the film To Big To Fail. It's an HBO film, but will probably be coming to NetFlix or other media at some point. The film concerns the financial meltdown of 2008 and almost does the unthinkable, explains coherently the subprime mortgage quagmire and the credit crunch and how close the economy was to a total meltdown.
