and it SUCKED!!!
Why in the hell didn't they just name it "Cloverfield II"??
By the way, I HATE California. Why anyone would want to live in this 9th circle of hell is beyond me!! We got the pleasure of sitting in horrific traffic in Santa Monica for an hour and watching armed policemen with weapons drawn storming through the streets while the LAPD copter circled above.
FUN!!

I agree, Socal does suck. It give the rest of this beautiful state a bad name.
Norcal is much different than Socal. You'd like it.

Having grown up in Northern California, I agree with you 1000%, Port! :-)

A word in defense of Socal (boo if you wish). LA can be a hassle (I rarely go there), but a little farther South is very nice. my wife and I walk on Seal Beach pier regularly and it's always lovely.
The amount of excellent restaurants in Orange County is amazing. If you eat at a bad place it's your own fault and that place will soon be gone due to the competition.
The weather is close to perfect. The beaches are probably the best in the US (especially if you're a surfer).
If you're seeking solitude, the mountains and the deserts (truly amazing) are only hours away.
Have you ever lived in Chicago or New York?

To be fair, my wife and I spent the day at Newport beach. It was downright lovely and we had an amazing day!

Ah, getting closer to my neighborhood. Newport is very nice and relaxed. Where are you located (no addresses, just the general area)? You may have guessed that I'm in the Seal Beach area.
When I first moved to Socal I lived in the San Fernando Valley. No picnic. I rented a house that was close to the job that brought me to California (Van Nuys). I moved from there as soon as I could.
I was going to ask you where you would live, if you could live anywhere you wanted, but I thought it might make an interesting thread. Please answer there if you would like.

After the freeway comes to an end, we parked on 29th (I believe). I was about 1 block from a McDonalds and a Subway.
It seemed like a great place with nary a drawn gun or a LAPD copter in sight!
There were a couple of dolphins riding the waves about 100 yards into the ocean. THAT was cool!!

Even though it got great reviews, I heard that Super 8 was just a conglomeration of movies from the 70's set in the 70's. That wasn't appealing to me so I have not seen it yet.
I highly recommend seeing:
