Need ideas for birthday pie

I will be making dessert for a surprise Bday party for my wife (sshhh, don't tell her). I plan to prepare 2 dessert options for the guests.

I've already decided on dessert Option #1: http://www.yummly.com/recipe/Chocolate- ... Recipezaar

I need ideas for Option #2. I think pie would be great. But it needs to be something that complements chocolaty stuff. Fruit pie? I think peaches are in season. It should be summery. Any ideas?

by the way - ice cream is given. I will have plenty of vanilla.

Thanks for any ideas/criticisms!

Zee.

Peaches are in season, Zeez, but if you want something that would taste okay next to that mousse, you might want to think about doing a coconut cream pie, or maybe a berry pie. I would even be down with straight-up blueberry, though I don't think that quite fits with the chocolate as well as a mixed-berry pie. YMMV. Key lime is another option, if you're into that sort of thing.

Thanks Doc! Great ideas. I'm a little afraid of anything creamy since I will have so much cream already so I will look into the berry idea!

Key Lime would be a nice companion for your mousse.

Chess Pie is probably too dense and non-summery, but when you mentioned "pie" for some reason I thought about how long its been since I've had a yummy slice of Chess Pie.

How 'bout some kind of cobbler? With a lattice top? Apricot and almond, blueberry and peach, blackberry...you could make it out of just about anything.

I've never heard of chess pie. I'm looking at some pictures. It looks amazing.

Funny - key lime is the last thing I would have thought of. I'll give it some time to consider...

my wife would get along with you just fine, I'm sure. If you have things to say about skiing, Led Zeppelin, period movie dramas, or gardening, then get ready for a 3 hour tête-à-tête.

You can rarely go wrong with chocolate cheese cake.
