England Riots, What's your opinion?

I was looking at other countries headlines as to what they think has caused all of the unrest in England of late and there are so many different ideas. I have only one opinion which is probably more accurate than these and some of the officials. The theory that it is people being upset at rise in tuition fees and cuts in student finance is utter BS because the majority of those who are rioting, looting and vandalism the country have no intention of studying and to be frank probably don't know what EMA is because they left school before they were old enough to receive it. I sure hope the government ban everyone who was charged for this from receiving benefits because it is those people that take from this country, who don't know how to work, or have any desire to work. And who would given that they have more rights and are better off than the working class. It is appalling. But anywho, your opinions?
Pirate.

As long as order will most likely be restored; the presiding govenment will stop the rioting.

I doubt it. The new conservative government doesn't want to be the the group that ushered hooliganism back in. Labour seemed to keep it in check during the 2000s. I'm guessing most of the rioting is about the cuts in welfare programs.*
*This is my opinion about welfare programs (US or UK or wherever). There is a certain amount of the population that is indolent and won't be productive. If you buy them off with "bread and circuses" they won't riot. If you make them starve they'll go out and steal and burn and crap. So buy off the worst of the indolent in society and try to raise as many of the others out of poverty through education opportunities/jobs.

What exactly are the UK riots about? In the US many past riots have started as a protest and escalated into a mass series of looting and vandalism.
Is this an authentic bread riot? Will the Prime Minister start with water cannons, rubber bullets and tear gas?

The riots started following a drug related police shooting of a young gang member in London.
The family of the gang member conducted a peaceful vigil in his memory and to peacefully protest at what they saw was an unnecessary shooting. (the man was found to have been in possession of a firearm).
Youths in London local to that peaceful vigil used it as an opportunity to cause civil disruption with only two purposes in mind:
1. to cause trouble to the Police
2. to get money and goods
Once the media reported the 'success' of the rioters in London getting goods from shops etc (looting) youths from other major cities in Britain (Bristol, Liverpool, Birmingham, Manchester) decided that if the Londoners could get away with it then so could they. Hence 'copycat' riots popped up around the country.
The average age of the rioter is between 14 and 18.
The riots ended once bad weather set in and the police took a stronger tone. So rather than standing by and just containing they started to crack a few heads and make some arrests. In fact arrests are being made, thanks to CCTV coverage, days after the offences took place. young rioters are experiencing their front doors being knocked down in police raids and they are ending up in prison.
My opinion: their parents should be doing a better job.

The shooting was a pretext. The victim was found with a firearm which is a huge no-no in Britain. Add to that that they had an armed unit there (only done if it is known suspect has a weapon or is otherwise dangerous) and you have a serious situation.
This mostly just lit a powder keg. These areas of London have suffered economically and there are few jobs, little money, and government benefits are tapering off and being removed under current austerity measures. You have a lot of anger and a lot of kids with nothing to do. Add in some racism and it was almost bound to happen. England may be heading back to the 80's with their widespread recession riots.

I don't think they had anything to do with the recession because those sorts of people are currently not being affected. They might be in the future though. We students have been hit the worst at the moment and you don't see that from us. I think there will be an uprising at some point because of they way things are going, but I don't think this episode was it. Just a bunch of dole kids being opportunists.

I am very afraid that the rioting is going to spread to the U.S.A.

Can we count on the tea partiers to be ready with their scooter chairs and golf clubs?
