Humans with our various cultures only agree on one thing, the quest for more... More knowledge, more money, more power, more land.

Is deep space exploration/travel a worthwhile goal for mankind?

Absolutely. Our planet has limited resources that are already beginning to run out. We have always been explorers, and our drive to explore is innately human. We need a space Lewis and Clark.

Indeed. Perhaps we should send them all into space.

Yes, knowledge is it's own reward. The argument is that we have so many problems now that we should focus on those instead of "wasting" money going out there. They forget that our problems are often solved by doing something else.

The space race created all kinds of neat things we are still profiting from. Sadly we've seemed to put the whole concept on the backburner. Part of me hopes China starts to militarize space so we get the tech trickle-down effect going again.
