The Car Spa

So, I've got a little blog here on MDB (Journey of a Jersey Girl: I don't know where I'm going. You come too.) which is closed to most of the community mainly due to some of the content, and I thought I would test drive this idea from a slightly edited blog entry here in the Old Testament, to see if I can pick up some other ideas for my idea. :-)

The Car Spa

This summer was the first summer in about 3 years that there were no schedules, no one telling me where to be and what to be doing. It was, for the most part, peaceful.

Finally.

Somewhere about the middle of July I realized that I felt rested and relaxed. Maybe it was the swimming. Maybe it was the fact that I made a dent in de-cluttering the basement. Whatever it was, I felt centered.

Finally.

When I thought about going back to work, I decided to find ways to carry that sense of peace over into my work days. Yes, I am going to join a fitness club so I can swim as much as I want. But what I'm talking about is seeking peace during the work day.

When the weather is good, I can walk or take a drive during my lunch hour. But when winter sets in, that's pretty much over except for taking the occasional drive. What I usually do during winter on my lunch break is either stay in the building or sit in my car with a fleece throw.

In keeping with my fall resolutions, which mainly involve NOT doing what I usually do, I hit on the idea of the Car Spa.

The Car Spa, simply put, is using the private space that is mine (my car) during my lunch hour to do things that are creative or self nurturing.

Here are some of my ideas of what one can do in their car on a one hour lunch break to "get away":

1. Manicure
2. Moisturizer and socks for feet
3. Needlework
4. Make pot holders (Found the loom/loops during the de-clutter)
5. Read something not work related
6. Read Magazines
7. Listen to Jeffrey Thompson CD's
8. Read on a Kindle (if I ever get one)
9. Eat Heath Bars (shut up, okay?)
10. Crochet
11. Write in a journal
12. Make Note Cards
13. Assemble a scrap book page (croppin' on wheels)
14. Eat a healthy snack (to counter the Heath Bar days)
15. Take a power nap (airline travel neck pillow)
16. Make Paper Art Pom Pom's (every scrap studio needs these)
17. Read the IKEA catalog ;-)

And of course, the ever present fleece throw because it feels good.

I'm going to get some sort of cute little container, maybe a red canvas basket, to put in my car for my spa basket.

What other ideas can you think of for the Car Spa?

:-)

I love it!

*Identify birds (just need a bird book)
*Cloud watch (this is spiritual for me)
*Write a story
*Write in a journal
*Pray/Meditate
*Draw
*Play with a wad of silly putty
*Clip coupons
*Mending (if anyone still does that)
*Make simple beaded jewelry

I really like the last two....I could hem skirts and make bracelets!

:-D

Ooooo...check these out from B&B!

Kinda pricey but so what? If I am not mistaken, you can also get Aloe Socks at B&B.

You can so do these things in your car while on a lunch break or any time you have to spend time waiting in your car and make your car your little "spa get away" on wheels.

Yeah...this is definitely a good thing!

I've purchased other brands but Yankee Candle seems to last so much longer and the fragrances are divine!

Ideas for your car spa? I think you should put one of these put in your car http://www.myspace.com/video/vid/3791176 If I recall correctly, there was one where the hot tub was in a limo, but I couldn't find a video.

Hey nobody,

I don't think that'll fit in a Honda Car Spa, do you?

:-D

Let us take a moment from our Saturday and power tooling, to record the progress of the Car Spa:

1. Manicure
2. Moisturizer and socks for feet

3. Needlework
4. Make pot holders (Found the loom/loops during the de-clutter)
5. Read something not work related
6. Read Magazines
7. Listen to Jeffrey Thompson CD's
8. Read on a Kindle (if I ever get one)

10. Crochet

15. Take a power nap (airline travel neck pillow)
16. Make Paper Art Pom Pom's (every scrap studio needs these)
17. Read the IKEA catalog ;-)
18. Red Canvas Basket
19. Fleece Throw
20. Yankee Candle Candle Jar for Your Car (rhymes!)

Almost every thing else on the list is stuff I just have to assemble and stuff into the Red Canvas Car Spa Basket.

And I got that Kindle sleeve by Vera Bradley in Mocha Rouge. It's so darn cute I can hardly stand it!

:-D

For the uninitiated, with regards to item 16. Here's a sample of the type of paper pom pom's I'm referring to.

You need these. Seriously, you do.

Item 4:

Now that's the right kind of loops. See how nubby they are? Not like those little nylon dealies you see everywhere.

Jersey Girl Trivia: I've been known to take white loops and dye them to make custom colored pot holders and sell them. You'd be surprised what people are willing to pay for in the name of rustic country crafts. ;-)
