It looks like the show will be exploring faith and God this season:

No sign of a return from Lumen (the blond in the second trailer is definitely not her).

I'm not as enthusiastic after the fifth season (which I think was the worst one yet), but I'll be tuning in. Maybe the writers will redeem themselves.

Given the tension between Hall and Carpenter since their separation and Hall's struggles with cancer, I'll be really, really surprised if this isn't the show's last season.

The off-topic forum is the forum for me tonight. Dexter and football. Now if there was a topic on expecting rainfall and how wonderful the Fall season is, Shades could change the forum name to Msnobody's forum for nothing in particular.

Oh, I seriously hope not!

Michael C. Hall looked really good at the Comic Con interview. I hope that his cancer stays in remission.

What I would love to see happen is that this season basically goes back to the roots of a Season 1 Dexter with some added insight.

Then, in Season 7, they bring back Lumen! Now, THAT would make for an awesome final season, in my opinion.

I also want to see the writers explore Deb's realization that she had been, not only engaged to, but almost murdered by her adopted brother's twin! And, that twin is a serial killer. The wheels are going to have to turn at some point to suspecting Dexter. Again, that might be an interesting Season 7 twist.

It looks like this season, there will also be hi-jinx with Masuka, who I love. Apparently, he is going to get some blood geek interns this season! LOL

Great opening!

I think this season is going to be good!

I felt so sorry for Quin trying to propose to Deb.

Looks like good, new freaky killers, and lots of drama!

Come on, Dexter fans! What are your thoughts?

Favorite Dexter lines:

Deb: Holy Franken “F”! Snakes!

Dexter:(while getting a little TLC from a cute former classmate) Stop talking, Dexter.

Another favorite Dexter moment from last night:

Joe: Where did you learn to play football?

Dexter: My Dad.

I thought it was a strong season premier. I'm a little nervous about this season because (1) the last season sucked so much, and (2) it's difficult to use faith fairly and effectively in film and television. So far, I think they're doing okay. The new serial killers are very, very creepy, and I'm tickled to see Commander Adama on the cast.

Quinn wanting to propose to Deb . . . well, since falling in love with Deb has pretty much been a death sentence on this show, I guess we know who's off the show next. Image

My favorite scenes from the episode:

(1) Batista trying to explain religious faith to Dexter. Trainwreck.

(2) Dexter's dialogue with the guy who killed his wife who had a Jesus tattoo on his chest. "God forgives us!" "Okay . . . So, if I kill you, God will forgive me?" "NO!"

Also loved the thing with Masuka and the cute intern.

Gotta love Masuka! He is my favorite comic relief!

I don't think that Dexter will kill Quinn. Just a hunch. I think that Quinn will be a long term thorn in Dexter's side.

My guess is that Quinn is going to have problems with Deb's promotion. You know she is going to get promoted after saving everyone at the restaurant.

I think that she is going to get promoted to Lieutenant over Batista, and there is going to be all kinds of problems at the station.

I had skipped last season because, frankly, I loved Rita and wasn't thrilled with how season 4 ended. I didn't want to know how they got Dexter out of that situation.

But I broke down, watched the entire season 5 over a week On-Demand and am back on as a faithful follower.

My thoughts so far:

I love that they are having Dexter take on faith. Especially the potential of his exploring the role of faith as a means of ensuring Harrison grows up normal. I'm interested in how that will play out.

Like Ms. Jack said, having Adama from Battlestar be the arm that guides the sword of the younger Hanks is just plain cool. Very promising.

I don't like having Dexter killing people without the old extended research phase. The EMT's he kills at the start of episode 1 felt contrived and I wasn't please to see Dexter set up a kill room in their vehicle without photos of their victims. You know the writers had him just killing them to set up the scene. Hope that doesn't continue.

I hope, HOPE, that Captain LaGuierta gets back to her season 1 and 2 upward mobile, antagonistic form as it seems is promised. And that she ends up on the wrong side of Dexter's end game whatever it may be.

The Showtime preview included interviews with a new character coming to town from Chicago who could potentially play a Doakes-type role. I like the potential there. Doakes was a good foil to Dexter and, to be honest, it is a necessary one. Someone at Miami Metro should be suspicious for crying out loud. I think they have shown that Quinn is backing off from that due to his love for Deb. hmmm. I'm not liking the castrated form Quinn has taken in episode 1. I liked him better as a douche bag fratboy-turned-detective.

One of my more favorite scenes from last season involved Dexter defending his daughter's friend from her mother's abusive boyfriend. I'd like to see how Dexter follows his own thread of the religious theme around redemption for himself. I've heard the books actually go so far as to make his Dark Passenger a demon that has possessed him. I really hope they don't carry that through the TV series, though. That would be worse than killing Rita for me.

ETA - changed mistake confusing season 4 with 5
