I agree that the hysteria over ANTIFA was way, way over the top. But anti-facism that promotes violent resistance to fascism has been around since at least WW II. The weekly rumbles in Portland are between groups that sincerely believe in violence as a legitimate tactic.

I think the organisation that promoted violent resistance to fascism in WW II was commonly known as 'The Alliies' at the time. They broadly worked under the slogan NNLM ('non-Nazi lives matter') so far as I recall.
