Chocolate Gravy

Who has eaten it? You know, over homemade biscuits?

I grew up eating it at my granny's house and am going to start making it every now and again for my girls.

My granny didn't use vanilla in her chocolate gravy, but my mother swears it needs it. There are recipes on the internet, some with vanilla, some without. If y'all have any tried and true recipes for chocolate gravy, would you share them?

Thanks!

KA

I'd use the vanilla. I haven't ever had this. I bet it is sinfully delish.

My grandma and mom both make it. I don't like gravy in general but I'm told it's the shizzle. It's definitely a country thing though, and is frequently the desert/sweet part of a southern "holler" breakfast (although we often eat "breakfast" for Sunday dinner).

Oh my Darling, Kimberly Ann. You just may have found the perfect gift for my roommate's birthday on sunday. I made her sausage gravy and biscuits for Xmas dinner and this would be the perfect followup.

Consulting recipes now.

Chocolate with meat is a characteristic of Castillian cooking. They must have had difficulty deciding what to do with all that yummy stuff from Mexico!! Vanilla? NO!!
