My sister's letter to the power company

There were some serious power outages recently in the Puget Sound area of Washington state where most of my family still lives.

My sister sent the following e-mail to Puget Sound Energy:

Jenny wrote:Dear Sir and or Madam,

You know, Power broke up with me at 5 am, with no warning! Just up and left. I thought we were happy and I considered it to be a serious relationship. We had great fun together, always laughing and and basically joined at hip! We were even gonna settle down, and just be together, ya know? Maybe even grow old together. Sure, Power spent nights away, doing its own thing, but it always came back by the morning. The distance made our relationship stronger.

Please let me know if you talk to Power, and let it know I’d do anything to get it back. It’s not over for me, not yet.

Sorry to vent about my problems, you just might know what to say to bring Power back to me. Appreciate all you hard work on the matter!

- Jenny

Eventually, PSE responded:

Puget Sound Energy wrote: Dear Jenny-

I confirmed that you and electricity are together again and we are very happy for you! The relationship you have with electricity is so very important to us and we felt terrible that there was an interruption in the relationship you should be enjoying. We also confirmed (and are happy to report) that even though it may have felt like electricity left you, it was actually the seemingly heartless acts of nature that prevented electricity from getting to you and being with you. Please don’t feel like power avoided you. Power was actually desperately trying to reach you.

However, PSE enlisted every available crew (including crews from out of state) helicopters to pinpoint damaged transmission areas, and hard working people to reunite you with your power as quickly as possibly because we are in the business of establishing and preserving relationships people have with their power. Our hope is that your relationship with electricity is stronger and safer than ever, now that your are reunited.

For our part, we will continue to do our best to preserve your union with electricity so that your relationship continues to grow over time!

-PSE

P.S. your notification was generally considered the favorite notification PSE saw of a power outage. Hope you have a great week!

Good for a giggle. That's my lil' sis.

Fair play to the power company for playing along!

Very witty that sister of yours.

We were lucky enough to not lose power but all my coworkers were left without it for 24 hours. We lost a tree that crashed down between our house and the neighbors. Two misses. So lucky.

Good stuff! You might be interested in the fact that there's a guy out there who makes a living sending crazy e-mails like this and getting people's agitated, bewildered, and/or angry responses in return (not that the response to your sister was). It's always great for a laugh. See:
