The Romney bullying story really bugs me

It probably shouldn't bug me, because he was a kid, and we all did stupid things as a kid. This kind of thing shows a person's character, and I really hope he has changed.
http://www.latimes.com/news/politics/la ... 0513.storyBut it is the story involving John Lauber, described as “a soft-spoken new student one year behind Romney … walking around the all-boys school with bleached-blond hair that draped over one eye” that may cause problems for the former governor. After Romney rounded up some friends, including Matthew Friedmann, who gave his version of the story to the Post, “they came upon Lauber, tackled him and pinned him to the ground. As Lauber, his eyes filling with tears, screamed for help, Romney repeatedly clipped his hair with a pair of scissors.”

I'm pretty sure he has changed since then. There is a guy in my parents stake that is good friends with Mitt. They were mission companions with each other and have kept in contact ever since. From his perspective he thinks Mitt is a real nice guy.
I knew someone else that was related to him. She had nothing but good things to say about him as well.
Anybody else here know him personally or through friends?

This story really bothered me, too. Mitt's claim that he was simply a "prankster" does not excuse this extreme form of cruelty, in my opinion. He comes across as a real bully toward those considered "weak." I'm sure he's changed with age (haven't we all?), but this story gives a real view into the core of his character, and it ain't pretty ....

He put a dog in a pet carrier and drove for 12 hrs in 1984, 19 years after this story happened. I think he evolved from homophobic bully to heartless towards animals. Later he'd go onto a fine career in vulture capitalism. What a swell guy.
Oh in 1981 he launched his boat after he knew he was breaking the law when warned by an officer. His defense was that his kids wanted to go boating. Willful disobedience of a police officer Mitt?

My former mission president was in his stake. He relates that Mitt was nearby the house of one of the families that he (Mitt) home taught. Well, the house had caught on fire and the fire department hadn't arrived yet. Mitt ran into the house, going from room to room (as much as possible) to be sure that all the occupants were either absent or had exited the house, then ran downstairs and saved a family heirloom before finally running out of the burning house himself.

I find it troublesome that he doesn't remember an incident in high school where his friends pinned down a younger classmate, while he cut his hair.
One can only conclude that Mitt must have engaged in this sort of thing on a regular basis.

For real? Because I just googled it and am pretty sure this story would have popped up.

Silly, Mitt's too modest to tell a story like that about himself and nobody from that ward wanted to toot his horn, either.

Mormons are by their very nature modest. Being part of the One True Church allows them to be that way.
