I grad school I had to read an obscene amount, like 4 books a week and so learned speed reading. I still can't stand ereaders that won't scroll. I am all about the scrolling.

I'm all about being able to flip a hard copy page back. I get lost in digital scrolling but digital is great for word searches.

Just read a passage in the Swerve, codexes caught on because you could flip the page back, hard copy scrolls were hard to search.

The best of all possible worlds for me would be a hard copy and a digital copy but that wouldn't solve my shelving problem lol.

I totally get the hard copy thing. I'm like that, but for reading I need it on a phone (or back in grad school, a Palm Pilot). I could read in the dark, have the software estimate how long it would take to finish, and all my books were in my pocket. I'm torn since all the best books are still in hard copy, but life isn't fair to anyone. Least of all, me.

I personally love my iPad. It is like having four e-readers in one gadget. I have the following apps:

iBooks
Kindle
Nook
Nook for Kids

All of these apps have different pros and cons. I prefer iBooks out of the four, just because I like the way it is organized. It is easy to flip back and forth, like a regular book, but you also have the option to scroll, look up words, highlight, bookmark, etc.

Nook is my next favorite. I also love Barnes and Noble's variety of books.

Kindle is probably my least favorite because the page numbers are not easily accessible, at least on the app.

Again, I would probably go with the iPad or the iPod Touch which has the same operating system, and allows for the same apps. One thing that is cool about the iBooks app is that you can download pdf files directly into iBooks, and read them the same as you would read any other book. If you are using a lot of pdf downloads, it sounds like this would be ideal.

I have a 3.72 GB flash half full. Plus more on queue on Google Play. Lots of times I copy and paste stuff from internet into OpenOffice, then transfer it to pdf.
