Review: The Avengers

I think it was Scarlett Johansson who said in an interview that this movie shouldn't work. She's right. The biggest problem one sees immediately is how are all these big ego main characters going to fit even in a longer than usual film? The writers and director pull it off masterfully. That doesn't mean the movie is without flaws and it was probably helped by all the previous movies introducing us to the characters individually; assuming one's seen them.
One of my older kids said it was the best movie ever. I would dispute that because I've seen many many more movies than him. The Avengers is a good movie, but I've seen ones that were much more evocative emotionally and/or with superior plots; and while I really enjoy lots of action and CGI, it's not the whole movie for me anymore. Nevertheless, I give the Avengers a 7 out of 10. If I were younger, probably an 8 or 9.
Despite the violence and action, it's almost good enough for the entire family (depending on how you view comic violence) except for little children for sure. With all the hunky actors (ladies) and drop dead gorgeous actresses (gentlemen) they also managed to avoid nudity, partial nudity, and most innuendo. One's imagination is much better right? Right. Any sci-fi fantasy comic book geek will want to see this. Any of their more "normal" friends, family, and acquaintances will too. Go see it on the big screen before it's run is done.
Hulk smash!
