A report issued by the United Nations-backed Global Commission on HIV and the Law; recommends that nations around the world get rid of “punitive” laws against prostitution – or what it calls “consensual sex work” -- and decriminalize the voluntary use of illegal injection drugs in order to combat the HIV epidemic.
The commission, which is made up of 15 former heads of state, legal scholars and HIV/AIDS activists, was convened in 2010 by U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-Moon and is jointly backed by the United Nations Development Programme and UNAIDS – the Joint U.N. Programme on AIDS/HIV.

First and foremost on their minds of course is preventing any more sex scandals among UN organizations in third world countries by making it okay.

Yes, I am sure that preventing sex scandals rather than AIDS was first and foremost in their minds. After all, what's 1.8 million deaths and 2.7 million new infections each year compared to the horror of a few sex scandals?

Maybe the Secret Service infiltrated the UN Commission to get this report issued.

I think this is a bit like a needle exchange program. The purpose is not to legitimize the action, it is to minimize the harm of the action.

Prostitution should be legalized both because it would result in less realized harm to the parties involved and because people should have the liberty to engage in voluntary business transactions free from paternalistic protections. What happened to your love of freedom BCSpace? I thought denying such agency made you part of Satan's plan. You probably should go ahead and turn in your TR today.

Legalization of prostitution would also increase safety for all parties and create jobs regulating the industry as well as tax revenue.

Yep. Though this is an extremely difficult line to walk. It's hard to separate legalization of prostitution with the sexual exploitation and quasi-slavery that almost inevitably encroaches.

So one would think. But given the reputation of the UN as well has homosexual lifestyle supporters in general, I have to stick with my initial assessment.
