Ida: Thoughts, prayers, and possibly donations.

Apparently hurricane Ida is making landfall on the coast of Lousiana. The eye is 15 miles wide and with 150 mph winds, it's just a couple of mph's short of a Cat 5. This is on the heels of hurricane Katrina.

I recall the aftermath of Katrina and the families housed in the Astrodome in Houston. I started packing materials and then my work wouldn't release me to go provide support to children and families. I don't think I'll ever forgive that. Not sure I'll ever forgive myself for not leaving in spite of them.

Anyway, I expect there will be calls for donations. If I see or you see any, please post them on this thread. As in other events, I'll be on the watch for donations to area groups who provide child and adult diapers and post them here when/if I see them. I can't emphasize enough how important it is to contribute to the diaper organizations. The Red Cross does NOT provide diapers in their disaster relief deliveries.

Imagine yourself a parent with a young child or elderly person who are not able to look after their own toileting, being stuck in a shelter without support to retain the most basics of human dignity.

Post your donation places here as you see them.

Red Cross Ida donations.

I keep thinking about the hospital workers dealing with a hurricane and Covid.

Thanks so much, MeDot!!

I'll get with the diaper orgs before long. I'm waiting for a couple of Chi's to get picked up. Chi-sitting this weekend. 8-)

So...I do see that a Christian org. located in Texas is doing donations including diapers. World Vision. But...since Texas looks like it's making itself ready to kick in, I'm going to wait until the diaper bank itself puts something up. So far, they haven't.

We've done the diaper bank as a board, previously. I'd rather wait for that.

In the mean time, you cannot go wrong with the Red Cross, for which MeDot posted the information above, for general disaster relief for victims of hurricane Ida.

That seems ridiculous! I wonder why they don't?

Anyway - Nice thread!

They supply things like cots, blankets, etc. They do NOT supply diapers. Read my OP and note how important diapers are to the young and old alike. Those opposite ends of the human developmental spectrum have everything in common with each other.

We're talking about human dignity here.

I've encouraged the diaper banks in past efforts whenever I've posted about a disaster relief situation. I'm all about the diapers!

Talking to myself out loud here. Some part of me thinks that if victims end up in shelters, they're going to need masks.

Well heck. I am just going to link to the Texas Diaper Bank anyway. They're located in San Antonio so yes...close enough to the expected disaster area.

https://www.texasdiaperbank.org/

FYI: There are diaper banks in other areas of the country. When disaster hits, please do NOT forget about these.

Depending on how things go in LA, if the Texas Diaper Bank makes a call for additional donations. I'll light up a few threads on the board as I have in the past.

A diaper bank... man, it's been years since I made a deposit into a diaper.

If you keep a dry diaper, do they give you credit?

I hope the diapers don't cost the bank much, basically for those looking for diaper change.
