He's smart enough to know that the birther BS is nonsense, and yet he plays to them. He also, hopefully, isn't a racist and yet he's using all the well-worn republican race code-words. (see: welfare)

Clearly a reference to the Obama birth certificate foolishness and a call out to the 'birthers' in his party.

Not only that, but SEVEN birthers are speaking at the convention.

My god. The republicans have gone full-on nut. And Mitt ends up looking amoral. At least McCain had the courage to stand up to the nutters in his own party. Mitt is laying down with them and giving them back massages. He wants to be elected so badly he will do and say anything. Isn't there some sort of tipping point here eventually, where even LDS begin to shudder?

Desperation? Romney's poll numbers are looking 'not so good' (no one seems to like him, not even Republicans). The selection of Ryan doesn't seem to have helped. Grasping at straws?

The Democrats are acting like adolescents as usual. Nowhere did Romney question Obama's birth. He merely implied, in a humorous way, that perhaps Obama would do good to release his own birth certificate to actual scrutiny so he could be as free of the issue as Romney is. Once again the Democrats prove they have no record to run on.

by the way, why won't Obama release his birth certificate like anyone else? Is it lost now?
