It's official now. Romney will not be bound by facts.

When asked about the facts behind their clearly dishonest (and thoroughly debunked by everyone) ad about welfare, Romney pollster Neil Newhouse stated, "We're not going to let our campaign be dictated by fact checkers."

He's finally saying out loud what has been obvious from the start, which is that they don't care about the truth when making ads or stump speeches.

After all, their very first general election ad was a blatant and unapologetic lie. It showed a 2008 clip of Obama quoting McCain's statement that he would lose if he talked about the economy, but with the "McCain actually said" part cut out to make it sound like he was talking about himself. They kept running it after being called on the lie.

So they've admitted to being politicians. No one is surprised, I hope.

In a more perfect world, what this story is about would be political suicide. We don't live in that world.

I've been thinking that the republican party has grown to resemble the LDS church in its attempt to control information. The LDS church has used scare tactics to keep members away from dangerous facts. It's anti-mormon, don't believe it. The republican party controls information in the same way, through talk radio and FOX news. The liberal media is untrustworthy. Only believe us.

I saw an interview with a reporter who had interviewed Romney supporters on the street, who cited Obama's destruction of the work requirement for welfare as a reason to vote for Romney. The reporter informed them that this was actually a false charge. Instead of showing ANY willingness to consider that their information was incorrect, they simply responded that you can't trust the mainstream media to tell the truth.

I seem to remember most politicians being shamed into taking their ads down and at least claiming ignorance when caught in a lie.

I don't recall any campaign ever being this blatant or this unapologetic in misrepresenting. The Romney bunch takes political dishonesty to an unprecedented level.

I wonder if it's the concept of "Lying for the Lord" in action, that it's okay because the 'righteous' end justifies the nefarious means?

If you go further back in time it gets pretty bad. They had some of the campaign smears from the olden days on the news. It was just as bad, if not worse. We're just lucky enough to live in an age where the lies can reach everyone in seconds.
