Ann Romney's convention speech.

Post by _krose »

Listening to her speech...

"I want to talk to you about that love so deep, only a mother can fathom it. The love we have for our children and our children's children."

What? Only a mother can understand the depth of love for a child or grandchild? And I can't?

What a sexist pig.

I find it scary that it's not axiomatic that a parent loves their children and grandchildren and Anne has to articulate it. I wonder why  Perhaps she doesn't love her children and grandchildren

She's a good speaker, and she comes across as much more genuine than her husband.

The speech was clearly an effort to get women to like him, a job given to her because she has the same equipment. I doubt it will be successful, because women don't dislike Mitt because they don't believe his wife and kids love him. They dislike him because he opposes policies that are important to them, such as reproductive choice, birth control access, and health insurance reform.

Wait. Are you saying that a father CAN fathom that love so deep!?! /sarcasm

Well, I don't know, according to the LDS church and its super-divinely-inspired "Proclamation on the Family," we don't exactly have the proper equipment. It's not our role, you know.

This is something that gets to me on a personal level. As an at-home dad who was always the primary caretaker of my children (and now providing daycare for my brand new grandchild), I am offended by the "only a woman understands" kind of language. To me it's equivalent to the nonsense of telling women they don't belong in the workplace or the military.

I agree. It is the damned fall-out of gender roles and sexism.
