Hiram Rhodes Revels (September 27, 1827 – January 16, 1901) was the first non-white to serve in the United States Senate. Because he preceded any non-white in the House, he was the first person of color in the U.S. Congress as well. He represented Mississippi in 1870 and 1871 during Reconstruction as a Republican. As pastor of a Baptist church in Montgomery, Alabama, Dr. King led a black bus boycott. He and ninety others were arrested and indicted under the provisions of a law making it illegal to conspire to obstruct the operation of a business. Dr. King and several others were found guilty, but appealed their case. A Supreme Court decision in 1956 ended Alabama's segregation laws enacted by Democrats. Blanche Kelso Bruce was born a slave in 1841 in Prince Edward County, Virginia but was raised in Missouri. Bruce was elected as a Republican to the United States Senate in 1875 and served to 1881. Although he was the second black Senator, after fellow Mississippian Hiram Revels, he was the first to serve a full term. When the Democrats gained control of the state in the same year he was elected, Bruce became increasingly isolated politically. Through the remainder of his term he supported freedman’s issues against the backdrop of Democratic rule of Mississippi.

The legacy of southern social conservatives hasn't gone away. They have switched what party they vote for, however.

I think you will find that the Southern Whites are much more repentant of their slavery roots than Northern White Democratic Liberals are willing to give them credit for. And what better way to control a group than to create in them a need for dependency. The Democrats want to control the black vote so they promise them a better chance, as long as, it involves public education. One doesn't see Democratic Congressmen and Senators sending their children to anything but the BEST private schools... They really know where to get the finest in education. And as for Obama Care --- such is far beneath their dignity. It was not until 1963 that the Democrats came up with anything and this was supported by many Republicans also, and it only went to re-emphasized what Republicans had already signed into law years earlier... I would say the Democrats believe that they control even the Teacher's Union.

Political activist. High school sophomore. Samantha Pawlucy sure knows how to stand up for herself and stay true to her convictions.

A geometry teacher at Charles Carroll High School, in Port Richmond, on Friday ridiculed Pawlucy, 16, for wearing a "Romney/Ryan" T-shirt and told her to leave class, her mother, Kristine, told the Daily News Wednesday night.

The teacher told Samantha, " 'Your wearing a Romney shirt is like me wearing a KKK shirt,' " according to her parents, who said they intend to file a formal complaint Thursday with the district and the school.

The teacher was identified by Kristine Pawlucy, but the People Paper is withholding her name because she couldn't be reached for comment.

The teacher opened the classroom door and "screamed out, 'This girl is wearing a Romney/Ryan shirt in my classroom!' " Pawlucy said.

The teacher invited an assistant and other students in to look at her shirt, which Samantha wore for the twice-monthly "Dress Down Day," Pawlucy said.

The T-shirt brouhaha was first discussed earlier Wednesday on WWIQ (106.9-FM) when the girl's father, Richard, spoke with radio host Larry Mendte.

The teacher reportedly told the teen, " 'This is a Democratic school, why are you wearing a Republican shirt?' " Richard Pawlucy said on the show.

Another teacher told the teen to remove the shirt and even approached Samantha with a red marker "as if she was going to write an X on her shirt," Kristine Pawlucy said.

"I didn't know what to do," Samantha said Wednesday night. "I was embarrassed."

The district is investigating the incident, district spokesman Fernando Gallard said. The district has removed the teacher from that geometry class and has replaced her with another teacher, Gallard said.

So, what would have happened, been done, and said by the "Mass Media", had the girl been wearing a shirt that read "Democrats for OBAMA" and the teacher said, "Oh, that is terrible! That would be just like me wearing a banner reading 'Social Communist Fascist'. This is a REPUBLICAN PUBLIC SCHOOL. You leave this room at once! And take off that, that Obamination!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

I think it would be all over the news and the teacher would be asked to leave and the President would call the "poor" girl to tell her that she was a patriotic American practicing her freedom. But, not true the other way around it would seem.
