Whoopi Goldberg, co-host of "The View on ABC, failed at an attempt to get Ann Romney with a "gotcha" question on Mormonism and military service. Romney, who appeared as a guest on the mid-day talk show, had to correct Goldberg on her faith's view on military service. Goldberg wrongly said that service in the armed forces was forbidden by the religion and was promptly corrected by Mrs. Romney. Transcript below.
WHOOPI GOLDBERG: As first lady, if you get the job, it’s going to entail a lot of things, and one of those things is going to be talking to the mothers whose children are coming home in bags, you know, from wars. Now, I know -- I believe that your religion doesn’t allow you to go fight.
ANN ROMNEY: No, that's not correct. We have many, many members of our faith that are serving in armed services.
GOLDBERG: Okay, um, I say that because when I read about your husband, what I had read, and maybe you can correct this is that the reason that he didn’t serve in Vietnam was because it was against the religion. That’s what I read.
ROMNEY: No, that's not correct. He was serving his mission and you know my five sons have also served missions. None served in the military.

Watch the video as it contains the full response and is quite classy as well as a teaching moment.

So, Ann admits on national TV that her husband the nominee for the President of The United States of America felt going door to door selling Mormonism in France was more important than serving his country in Vietnam. And you think that's 'gold'...
It's a shame Goldberg wasn't bright enough to follow up with:
"So you are saying when it came to a choice between his country and his religion, your husband chose his religion. Why should we trust him to flip flop once again and choose country over religion if he was President?"

And the anti-mormon sees only what he want's to see to make something the most negative possible.
She was stating that people SERVE in different ways, be it Military, Missions, or otherwise, and they ALL are worthy endevor's, and helps create worthy men and women.
Moron!

How is going on a Mormon mission a worthy endeavour equivalent to serving in the military, as far as it relates to The United States of America?

don't worry about it, just know that, as a member, you will still be expected to defend the US Constitution.

I look forward to receiving the draft notice. Obviously I'll pull a Romney and go do something else instead claiming it was just as important...

The military service argument has no traction in our country right now...this is the first presidential election we have ever had where neither candidate had military experience.
Whoopi was embarrassed by trying to be antagonistic over a non-issue with a guest that gracefully responded though it deserved nothing, and thus we saw Whoopi stare at her own feet for the rest of the interview, because her own personal failings overwhelmed her ability to be a professional "host" - thus we saw Whoopi with little dignity and little to say.

wont be a draft notice...it will be a "calling", or a service project.

Don't get me wrong, I think Whoopi is talentless, totally and completely talentless. That someone allows her a microphone and an interview show is a sad indictment on American entertainment.
What pants was Ann wearing...?

Gold? I just thought she tactfully answered a dumb question from an ignorant questioner.
