I've noticed the more than obvious trend of conservative pundits and pollsters predicting a Romney win (some by absurd margins). Historically speaking, can anyone remember a conservative voice predicting that McCain was going to lose? Or a liberal voice predicting Kerry was going to lose in 2004?

Or are these pundits part of the process, trying to rally the troops with optimism?

Dick Morris was on Fox News four years ago predicting a McCain victory all throughout the night even as that prospect became more and more unlikely. He is again predicting a landslide win for Romney this year.

You don't see that kind of delusional bias on the other news shows.

Obama is still trying to fire up the base. Romney is speaking calm centrist speak. That should tell you what each campaign believes. While all signs and trends point to Romney, I am cautiously optimistic. If he loses, we fight on.

I had the same question. It sure seems to be part of the game on both sides. Ultimately we don't really know. We don't really even know if the votes were counted fairly after it happens.

What we do know for a fact is that Republicans in Ohio and Florida are trying to suppress the vote to a staggering degree, and the Democrat vote will not be completely accounted for. Florida governor Rick Scott is refusing to extend early voting hours even though the previous two Governors did precisely that. Scott said he wouldn't do it unless there was a natural catastrophe. But voters are waiting as much as six-nine hours in line to vote. Last night the Republican mayor in Miami-Dade County closed voting until protests ensued and people started banging on the doors demanding that they be allowed to exercise their constitutional right; a which point he reopened them and people who showed up to vote as late as 5pm were still there after 1am.

Unbelievable.

Oh, and don't forget the Republicans in Ohio who cut the five week early voting time and limited it to only military voters. When Obama sued and won, the Right Wing media said it was because Obama was trying to suppress the military vote!

These people have no conscience.

Dick Morris is definitely way out there. He was on Michael Medved's show last week with his landslide predictions and Medved couldn't even pretend to acknowledge such a possibility.

What do you mean by pundits? Back in 2004 it was FOX News that was setting the standard for hosting "pundits" to flood the airwaves with their opinions, most of whom were selected for their slanted Right wing perspectives. In 2004 I never watched anything but FOX, so I wouldn't know what liberals said back then.

But I'm referring specifically to those who actually host shows like Hannity vs. Maddow. O'Donnell vs. O'reilly. Fox refuses to drop Dick Morris as their election prophet, even though he is proved wrong all the time. But they keep him because they like his conclusions. When I watch shows like Maddow or the Ed Show, I don't see anyone declaring a victory for Obama. Maddow did have a show the other night discussing Nate Silver's findings, but there is always the caveat that these are just polls with a margin of error. You don't find this kind of cautious optimism on FOX. They live in a parallel universe, a reality created for themselves where they have convinced themselves that Americans overwhelmingly hate Obama just as much as they do, and that all polls suggesting the contrary are part of some massive liberal conspiracy.

The way FOX responds to facts is very much the same way Mormon apologists respond when uncomfortable facts are presented about Mormonism. FOX is not journalism. It is the antithesis of journalism. "Some people say" is a clever tactic they employ to inject opinion into their "news" coverage, while not actually making it known that this is what they're doing.

It shouldn't be hard to find conservative commentators predicting an Obama victory in 2008. He had such a decisive lead that you have to be especially ridiculous not to acknowledge it. This is different in that it is much closer.

I believe that Karl Rove predicted that Barack Obama would win back in 2008.

I knew as soon as McCain was going to be nominated that the GOP would lose.
